  • 1988 Ford Turbo Ranger - $2100

My little B DJ (has the orange fox body, many of you may have met him, or at least seen his car on Woodward before - perhaps even seen this) is selling his '88 Ford Ranger. It's packing a 2.3L Turbo I4 out of a T-Bird Turbo Coupe.

I'll let the rest of the craigslist ad speak for itself to limit the redundancies. I helped on the engine rebuild, so I've seen the inside of the engine, and how it was rebuilt - which is correctly, haha.

    http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/3176517351.html

    The ad:

Up for sale is my 1988 SVO Turbo Ranger project vehicle. It has been my DD for over one year now and has been very reliable. It is also very clean for an '88! The truck is a blast to drive and will keep up with stock V8 muscle cars of the day. I have beaten several Mustangs and Camaros off the light, which is very entertaining. It will run a 15.0 in the 1/4 IF you can get traction. I had 17" mustang wheels and tires on it, which really helped as far as traction goes. . . (for sale on craigslist for $200). I have stock wheels on it now. The truck is just fine as is and I would trust it to go anywhere, but needs some TLC that I simply no longer have time for. The truck will need some minor work in order for it to be considered "finished" in my opinion. I have a ton of time and over $3000 in the truck and will be very sad to see it go, but it needs some TLC that I no longer have time for. I also have a box of random parts that will come with the truck. I am asking $2100 cash. No trades please. I am not in any hurry to sell it, so no low-ball offers please. I have MUCH more money in it than what I am willing to let it go for and it is well worth it. Call or text DJ anytime (248) 821-1189

    Body:

    -Odometer reads 98K
-Manual brakes, plenty of life left on pads
    -Manual Steering
-Pretty clean and rust free for an 88, although not perfect.
    -New Headlights
    -New Windshield
    -Hood Pins
    -Aluminum Bed Cap
-Functional Hood Scoop (although ugly ha)
    -Snow tires (50% tread left)
    -Thunderbird Seats
-New Kenwood stereo with Polk Audio speakers and Jensen amplifier
    -New Carpet

    Powertrain:

-2.3L Turbo Block and computer from an 87 T-Bird Turbo Coupe
-Larger Garrett T3 turbo from an 85 T-Bird
-T5 Transmission from 87 T-Bird Turbo (Third synchro is shot and grinds going into third. Used T5's are about $300 and an easy swap)
    -Aluminum driveshaft with new U-Joints
    -Top mount intercooler
-2.5" Exhaust with glass pack muffler dumped just after the cab (sounds good)
-Manual boost control valve (set to 20PSI)
-Boost recirculation valve to reduce wear on turbo
-Engine has 90K Miles on it
-New main and rod bearings 10K ago
    -New oil pump 10k ago
    -New Alternator
    -New Cap/Plugs/Wires/O2 Sensor 10K ago
    -Be Cool Aluminum Radiator
-87/93 Octane switch installed under dash
-Autometer Boost, Oil Pressure, and Temperature gauges
    -Walbro 225LPH new fuel pump

    Issues:

-Turbo feed line has been dripping oil, have not had a chance to fix
-Tailgate opening mechanism needs to be fixed
-Third synchro is shot and grinds going into third. Used T5s are about $300 and an easy swap.

It's a lot of fun to drive, quick, and it has a bed for hauling junk. Nothing like a 5-speed, turbo, rear wheel drive pickup.

It is a fun truck for sure. Also has a tendency to turn some heads when they hear the turbo spool (which you hear quite well considering the exhaust dumps just below the passenger footwell )

I'll have a Volvo B234f 16v head pretty soon, let any interested buy know that you know where to find one. Will need to be rebuilt though.
