  • Looking for a car for my daughter

My daughter just turned 16 and I'm looking for a car for her. Prefer something from GM, but..... Would like something small, economical, inexpensive (I can hear you saying, yeah, right). Prefer to stay under $3500 but will go higher for the right car. Dependable and safe only, please. willing to look at something needing minor work if the price reflects it. 248 444 1541 don

other than the ones listed above, how about a Cavalier/Sunfire or Grand Am?

I can vouch for the Cavalier or Sunfire, as long as its one of the later models. Stay away from the Grand Am. They go through hubs and brakes every six months or so. Spent a lot of time under them.

grand ams are no nos as well as grandprixs. axle shafts go easily transmissions, head gaskets, superchargers if equipped. grand ams sometimes get real shitty mileage hub bearings wear easily etc

What he said. Just bought one for my 16 yr old sister...she couldn't be happier. Lots of room. Easy to work on, CHEAP to fix. The definition of reliable. Great in the snow. Safe. Cheap. Cheap.

yeah the 4.0's are bullet proof. Just finding one that's not all rusted out for $3500. That's going to be the problem.

I have a really nice Volvo I'd let go for $3500 Its a 1998 S70 T5, Red, Loaded with heated seats and the whole 9 yards. Only 128,xxx miles.
Also have a 2000 Taurus with 156,000 for $2500. Those are the only cars I have in that price range right now. I can post pics if you want.

many of the non rusted out ones ive seen are they ones jacked up to the sky and used as mud trucks, mostly because they are thoroughly caked in mud

I have a '99 Grand Am SE coupe with the 3400 V6. It's got 109k miles and in pretty good shape. The only problems I've had with it are electronic gremlins with the ABS, replaced front brakes, and bad power window. I've gotten over 30 mpg on the highway with it. They're pretty easy to find, but finding one with <125k might be tough. Other than those things, though, I've been pretty satisfied with it.
