This is a perfect car for the warmer months ahead! It's a 91 Mercury Capri XR2. It has a turbocharged 1.6L Mazda-sourced engine pushing 132 hp mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. More powerful and quicker than a MX-5 Miata of similar vintage. The car is just about to roll over 90k original miles...no typo, this is a low mileage car! The car isn't in show condition, but is in very good shape for it's age.
INTERIOR: The interior is in very good condition, no rips/tears/stains in the interior. It has charcoal cloth buckets in the front and a back seat as well, although the the back is better suited for grocery bags rather than people. There is one small burn hole on the passenger seat, but that is the only sign that this could've been smoked in. No funny smells.
BODY: There are some pretty small dents and scratches on the body, and a little bit of rust on the rockers and lower body. The wheels are 16" ASA aftermarket rims, and are a huge improvement over stock. Tires are Kuhmo performance tires. Front are getting a little low in tread, but the back ones still have plenty of life left. The convertible top is in good condition, but has one small (1/2") tear in the rear window. It appears as though it could be very easily repaired.
MECHANICAL: Clutch is good, it does not slip. Engine runs good with no odd noises. The car does smoke a bit when started after sitting, lasts maybe 1/2 mile of driving. Previous owner believed a seal in the turbo was bad, and it was filling with oil, which was being burned off. The gas tank has a leak about 3/4 of the way up in the front. It leaks when you fill it up or park it on an incline. The ignition is damaged, and the car thinks there is a key in the ignition at all times. I think it's just advanced "keyless" technology, but you might want to fix it.
THE BAD:
-Fuel tank leak
-Smoke on startup
-E-brake doesn't work
-One headlight motor is slow, but it works ok
-Ignition issues
-One front parking light lens is broken, I'm working on finding a replacement
I'll update the listing if anything changes. I'm working on fixing some of the issues, but this car is in very good shape for the year and the price. Also, it is FWD and hardtops are available and very easy to install. This car appears to have only been driven in the warmer months for most, if not all, of it's life but could easily be driven in the winter if you want. It's a fun little car and gets close to 30mpg. I'm asking $2300, but I'll offer it for $2100 to MIF-body members! It is a very fun and very clean car for that price, and very hard to beat!
Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics, I didn't even bother to clean the car up prior to taking them...
The paint on the 1/4 panel in this pic looks discolored, but it is not! All the paint matches!
