Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Come on its a great engine, may i ask y u want the 3.1 over the 3.4?
Well it is a better engine for the long haul. It is less expensive to fix and more reliable. I have had both and let tell you the 3.1's are much easier and cheaper to work on. My Current DD 92 cultass has 189,000 on it with a 3.1 and still runs strong. My last DD 94 beretta 3.1 had 160,000 when I sold it, the one before that 89 Cutlass 3.1 256,000. You can get these same miles out of a 3.4 but it will cost you about 4 times as much. That is why I think the low-tech 3.1 is better. IMHO.
You'll remember our '91 Lumina Z34 and our '95 Monte Carlo Z34? Great engines, nice power, but we didn't keep them real long, like you're talking, so didn't experience any big repair or maintenance bills. They were both great family cars while we had them.
RIP Doug,You will always be remembered

Yep I remember them. I didn't say the 3.4 was a bad engine just more prone to problems and more costly to repair because of the DOHC.

The DOHC may cost more on certin top end repairs but naturaly some cars are more than others. But i wouldnt say by anymeans that the 3.4 DOHC engine is more "prone" to problems over the 3.1 engine. I have seen many 3.1's only last till 100k miles, same w/ certin 3.4's too though, it all depends on how the car was maintained.

I am not going to argue over it, You asked why so I gave you MY OPINION. I do believe they are more prone to problems than the 3.1 but that is MY OPINION. I also believe that ALL Imports are , some people don't like that one either. See where I'm going here. Opinions are like everyone's got one. LOL
