This car may be one my son keeps if he can afford to restore it. I emailed some Pontiac clubs and yesterday got this response from one of them.
This car may be promising.
"he GT-37 was an option on the T37 2-door Hardtop Coupe. The GT-37 was
intended to offer a GTO-type performance package on the base model A-body,
the T37.
There were 5,802 produced in 1971. The vast majority, 5,015, were powered by
the 350ci 2bbl engine. Optional engines included the 400 ci 2bbl -146 made,
400/4bbl- 572 made, 455/4bbl- 15 made, and the 455HO/4bbl- 54 made.
The GT Sport Package consisted of: body-colored sport mirrors, Rally II
wheels w/o trim rings, Rally Stripes, dual exhaust, raised white letter
tires, hood pins, chrome exhaust extensions, GT-37 badging on fenders and
trunk lid. The option cost $236.97. A V8 engine was an additional required
option.
There were two different rally stripe packages released for the '71 GT-37.
The early stripe looked like the Judge eyebrow stripes. Towards the end of
the model year, the reflective "sword stripe" package was installed. Only
about 200 cars received this treatment.
There is a very loyal following for this car. Its rarity and performance
image make it a desireable car to restore. The cars equipped with the larger
V8s and manual transmissions are more valuable. Since the GT-37 was an
option package, documentation is always helpful when trying to establish a
provenance on these rare cars. Build sheets, window stickers,
Protect-O-Plates, or Pontiac Historic Services paperwork are good items to
have".
