same thing happened to me. i sold my 1989 s10 350 (1800$). and 2 months later i found it on CL for 3000$ he said it was clean, no rust, had a 373 gear but a worn out posi.
the person i bought it from was the orginal owner and had done the swap
the s10 was just a truck 350/350 combo with shift kit
it had the factory rearend. it was a 4 banger 5 speed originally. (no posi)
it had rust. i repaired the cab corner and rocker panel but both the front bad corners were rotted.
i called the guy and he said be build the s10. i then proceeded to tell him were all the rust was and the kill switch i had installed in the grill. i made him look like a complete ass.
