  • FS: 1968 Mustang Convertible

My parents are trying to sell there all original 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible. It has 61,400 all original miles. With a 289 2-barrel with a 3 speed manual trans. The car was restored about 20 years ago and is in incredible shape. It has the original Acapoco Blue paint with the original pony interior. This car is an awesome car, I love driving it around and the looks that you get in it. They had an appraisal done on it in 2006 and it was valued at $25,200. The paint is probably an 8 out of 10 and it has a power top, power brakes, and power steering. The wheels on it are the Mag 500 wheels which are original to the 1967 Mustangs but they do have the original 1968 wheels that came on the car from the factory.

I know this is not the best place for advertising the car but if you know of anyone that would be interested in the car please give call (989) 780-3829. My parents are looking to get $23,500 obo.

If that 289 is the correct engine, it must be an early '68 Mustang...

      The 302 was a mid-year introduction.

      There's lots of 68 289 'Stangs.

In 1968 the small block Ford was stroked to 3.0 in (76.2 mm), giving a total displacement of 302 in³ (4.9 L). The connecting rods were shortened to allow the use of the same pistons as the 289. It replaced the 289 early in the 1968 model year.
Doesn't specify what "early" is, but I've always known it to have been before mid-way.

The 289 was available for a the entire 1968 year and in the 1969 year they switched to the 302. 289's are very common in the 1968 mustang's. If I can remember right I believe that this Mustang was built in July or sometime.

Apparently the last 289 was installed in July. They were not available for the entire 1968 model year.

(If you don't believe me, explain the stock 302 '68 Mustang I found in a garage...)

302's have been an option throughout the entire 67 and 68 model years. Just like the 289 was an option throughout the entire model year. They switched the 302 to the standard base model v8 in the 1969 model year. I have the original build sheets for this car and a marti report. A very good friend of mine had a late model 1968 Mustang fastback with a 289 4 speed.

In all honesty I posted this car up as a favor for my dad who would like to get rid of it to build a hot rod. I really wasn't wanting to get in arguments over what motor this supposed to be in what year. Thanks.

Do you have any interior pictures? I'd like to show this to my Grandpa, he's looking to get rid of his '57 Buick and get something else. . . This car is identical in every way to the Mustang he had when I was a kid.
