OK, could be, I have not studied them that close. A pretty cool car, either way. Should run pretty strong.

Not a typo, a Phase IIx6 is a 500hp engine package that was developed in the last couple years, it was not available at the time the Berger SS cars were delivered but you can always send your GMMG car back for upgrades as you already know.

My father's car has the Phase IIx which is the high torque "475hp" package. It gets a low end torque boost by using ported and reworked GM 5.3L truck heads pushing up the CR to 11.5:1 with smaller combustion chambers than the origional 5.7L heads. You give up a little top end HP (est. 25) but the low end torque gain is perfect for an auto car like dad's. The 3600 stall torque converter helps a little too.

The Phase IIx6 package is basically the same as the Phase IIx (headers, cam, pulley, ported TB, etc.) but it uses the GM LS6 5.7L heads and is where the "6" comes from in the package name. The LS6 heads will give you a little more top end HP but you must rev the engine up around 6500 rpm which is fine for a 6 speed but a 4L60E will not live a long life revving up that high. This is why most Phase IIx engine packages are found in autos and the Phase IIx is found primarily in 6 speeds.

I have talked to 2 guys who had some of the earliest Phase IIx6 packages installed in their automatic cars and they were not totally happy with the performance with the low end torque loss. They worked with GMMG to come up with a better auto package and had their cars changed to the Phase IIx package (giving up top end HP for torque) They were very happy with the change and is what led Dad to get his PIIx package over the higher hp PIIx6 package for his HOTROD.

As far as the car in the ad goes, did you notice this line from the ad? >>>>> LS-6 Cylinder Head Upgrade

As far as the intake goes it looks a little like the Typhoon from Professional Products but not exactly. Looks like possibly one of the newer GM intakes (either LS2 or LS3) with the squared off intake runners.

Either way I'm guessing it is part of the new induction packages GMMG is offering as of 2008 as they now have an option to upgrade your 500hp Phase IIx6 package to 525hp and similar gains for the Phase IIx package too. My father received a letter direct from GMMG this spring talking about the upgrade options they are offering for these engines so I'm guessing that Matt is exploring larger diameter TB's and aftermarket intakes for the PIIx packages to gain a little more hp, and who doesn't want more hp?

Couple pics of the Typhoon intake

Great info, Greg. I keyed in on the squarer runners on the intake and the color.

I still love my Phase I package. Runs perfect and gets good gas mileage. A great road car that eats up miles in huge chunks.

          Wow Greg,
thats some awesome info. I learned something new today. I want the car even more now. I love HP!
Do these changes make the car more desireable to collectors?
Does it enhance the value as a Berger car?

This is good info and with the info I know I want to compress it a bit for future searches, I am not trying to correct anything just like to outline information like this:

              • 2004 Start of P2X (475hp) 425-435 @ Rear (P2 with Truck Heads ported by TEA and Bigger Comp Cam)
              • Mid 2004 Start of P2X6 (500hp) LS6 Heads with more aggressive cam
              • 2008 available P2XT (525hp) with Trick Flow Heads. P2X6 still available, P2X is no longer available

Gib hasn't sold a camaro in 30 years and I don't really expect him to start now.
But I suppose it never hurts to ask.
