Joel - I did not mean to offend you if i did so. You went out of your way to save this car, my hats off to you.

    Autotrader sells Drivers really well

this car is not a driver and the normal joe would have no use for this car, which makes it a tough sale because the market for this car is limited to enthusiasts and mechanics as is

I have advertised craigslist in 3 regions, and placed an add on here for the last month (yes i had a GI thread feb 11 )

Out of all the cars i have sold they have been on here or craigslist, the other forums have never sold me a car before so yes i did not list it anywhere else but htose two places but did send SEVERAL PMs to various people who all think a solid clean roller is worth $500 LOL!!!!!

not gonna happen, i need money, i need parts

i will loose both if i sell this as a roller but in the sake of a clean Formula i put it up for sale as one cause even i would ahte to see this car get parted out

      Jake

To my knowledge the rod knock has not caused further damage as the engine acutally runs semi-decent and the oil pressure appaers to be normal

I would recommend getting a good/used shortblock (can be found for $200+) or getting the current one rebuilt\

edit and to anser your question the connecting rod is what i'm refereing to, its what connects the piston to the crank, and I believe it is on one of the front drivers side cyl. but it is hard to tell

you didnt offend me i just dont like seeing good cars get parted. Wrecks, V6s, or even beat up V8s i could care less about.

rod knock is usually caused by rod bearing failure. It typically requires pulling the motor [and oilpan] and replacing all main-bearings... unless further damage has been caused. Im guessing this one has not since it has good oil pressure and drives still... but its a gamble.

sell the interior i dont want and all the drivetrain stuff and then i will keep the body/chassis in one piece to sell or hold onto

would anyone be interested if i swapped a good lower mile LT1 into this?

I think $5,000 would be reasonable, maybe even more after i shine this up and make it look awesome just in time for spring

I'm not gonna buy it, since I already have a car.

But if you get it fixed, I'd say $5k would be a STEAL, especially with a "new" motor in it.

it is a nice looking car, but it is 12 years old, so i would think with a good running motor the car is worth about 4000, i dont think you'll get 5000 or more for it

blue book values are a place to start, but you have to consider what the cars are really selling at in your area

                  thats just my 2 cents,

                  good luck with the sale

eh blue book is overated (just my opinion)

cars right now are not selling well

but i have a feeling if i park it on the sid eof the road this spring it will get some attention

I would guess $4,800 TOPS. Its pretty similar to the red tran am you had, except it is a worse exterior and interior color. I know the red car had some issues but I think you had trouble getting $3500. When gas is averaging $3.50+(premium) in the spring your not going to have many bitters for a 12 year old V8 automatic.

                      • well i can find an engine for cheap that is documented and has ok miles on it so really i figure 10-20 hours of work for (even say i get $4k) $2,000 more than im asking now

i think i need to list it in the paper or pay for advertising when its done though, im getting sick of craigslist

i disagree with that. i like green way better than red. Green is also the only color i could deal with tan on. The other thing is, the trans am wasnt stock. Cars that arent stock dont bring as much cash. This thing is basically a virgin.

I think you could start at 6500 obo and see what you get. If you start at a low price, people are going to think its junk.

The key is to DETAIL IT WELL. a high price isnt gonna scare anyone away from offering if the car looks like its worth it. Put the car away at night. I probably backed right out of 10 driveways looking at cars when i saw a layer of dust from sitting outside for weeks. Put it in the garage every night and wipe it down quick.

When i bought my car the guy had it in a garage under a cover!! That was an immediate incentive for me personally. basically - just make an impression you care about it and it adds value.

X2, I would say starting at 6500 is completely resonable, it just has to catch someones attention out of the corner of their eye, then my friend I think you have the potential to make some buck.
