  • Feeler: 1997 Firebird Formula WS6 (True)

Just gaging some interest here. My dad purchased a white 97 ws6 formula from a guy who isn't sure what he was sitting on. He was the original owner, and just recently moved here from Ohio. It does need a little bit of work.

    Details:

    -1997 Firebird Formula (True WS6)
-White with blue stripes (not under clearcoat)
-WS6 package and wheels with matching blue centercaps
    -Ram Air
    -Hardtop
-Auto 4L60E (1 of less than 500 hardtop autos)
-Hooker or BBK headers (with EGR, he does not remember brand off hand)
-Newer Fuzion tires (90%+ tread left)
-97,000 miles (if I remember correctly...)
    -Original highway miles
    -Black leather interior
    -Monsoon with CD Changer
-Fresh oil change at Valvoline (I was the one who performed it and that is where I found out about the car)
    -Tinted hatch window
    -Underdrive pulley

    Needs:

-Front nose (damaged from a winter spinout)
    -Rear bumper (car swung around)
-Rear quarter will need to be banged out and wheeled to refinish (no serious paint damage or creasing)
    -Driver's side taillight
-Headers need retightening, very slight leak
-Wheels will need new centercaps and refinishing (clear is peeling)
-Stripes need to be removed (they are on top of the clearcoat, so they can be removed and the paint wheeled to refinish), the sun did a number on them since they were not protected with clear. Paint is fine though. The stripes are faded and cracked pretty bad.
    -Stereo not working

He said he had the car out on winter a year ago and he spun it on accident and the nose hit and swung around and the passenger quarter hit. The fix is very easy. Most of the paint is in good shape. The car is mechanically sound, no issues from the motor or trans. Runs like a top. No serious mechanical issues have risen. No body rust, and just minor surface rust on the undercarriage, expected of a 10 year old car. Note that this car runs and drives EXCELLENT, and none of the defects will effect its driveability whatsoever.

Appraisal, based on "fair" condition, described as:
"Fair" condition means that the vehicle has some mechanical or cosmetic defects and needs servicing but is still in reasonable running condition. This vehicle has a clean title history, the paint, body and/or interior need work performed by a professional. The tires may need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage.

    Kelley Blue Book = $6,105
    Edmunds = $5,943
    NADA = $12,300 (unrealistic, I know...throwaway price, since you cannot choose options/mileage/etc.)

This is not my asking price, nor am I expecting to necessarily get that amount of money. This is simply a feeler to see what people think it could be worth, and if someone wants it bad enough for a decent price, it is their's. My dad also wants to determine whether or not he wants to keep it and do the minor work himself, and then drive it next summer. So, with that, let's here some offers and opinions!

NOTE ABOUT PICS: The car is currently not stored at my house, and my camera isn't here either, so pictures will come when available (probably another week or two).

Someone here just bought a 97 T/A for $3500 that's in a lot better shape. Can't imagine you'd get more than that despite the fact it's a WS6 car.

yeah i know about that car. i think that being a true WS6 helps the value on this car quite a bit. they are definitely worth more just for that simple fact. not to mention, i blue booked it fairly to compensate for the damage, even though i am aware its the market value. just cause one person got a absurdly smoking deal doesnt mean that everyone is going to. $3500 wouldn't be too TOO bad, though.

i certainly wouldn't say its that low. keep in mind, you started asking 8,000 for your car and that is ludicrous.

my 97 t/a is in the same condition as yours, has almost identical mods and options, red too except that paint job (which has no market value), same interior, but its one year newer and has less miles. i paid $5,900 for my car, so put that into perspective.

let me be quite honest... this car is not that bad. a very little bit of work, not too much money, and it would be as good as gold. its definitely not a wreck, that is a foolish thing to say. $2000 is low balling it for sure. a 98 WS6 for $8-9000 is completely irrelevant. i don't even want more than $6000 for it, and not even close to that either.

its obvious that you know its worth more than $1500. you'd buy it and flip it for sale the next day.

if i never made this post and did the work myself, i could invest about $1,000 and turn around and sell this in the neighborhood of $6000.

my dad might end up keeping it if we do the work anyway. again, just a feeler, but $1500 is ignorant.

and $10,500? holy shit! LS1 anybody?

it is only worth what the MARKET is willing to pay. i could tell you i am willing to pay $6 for your car and that doesn't mean its worth 6 bucks by any stretch of the imagination, especially if there is one guy who is willing to pay $7000 (which there was), and another willing to pay, let's say...$6,400.

everyone is acting like i have some sort of asking price. i have NO price, but $1500 is just too ridiculous. this is a fully running, 100% performing car with some body work needed. i could get $1500 for the motor alone.

probably from all the over punctuation and emoticons in between each word, haha.

unfortunately, its not just what A person will pay. its what PEOPLE will pay. more than one. it depends on the market, whats fair, what makes sense, what similar cars have been selling for. like the dude that offered to pay me $1500 tomorrow...it is clear that he knows it is worth more, but he is only willing to pay $1500, thus making a turnaround. im the one trying to flip this into a turnaround. and i was willing to pay the price i paid because i knew the market value was much higher.

the market value for anything is not determined by what one person is willing to pay...its the market as a whole. so if one guy comes in here and says its only worth $1500, he is wrong. i think you car is worth less than $6000, since i have nearly the same car and paid less than that for mine. does that mean it is the fair market value? absolutely not.

someone is going to give you more than $6000, and someone is going to give me more than $1500.
