I think I'll buy a Fiero to swap my 3800 II into after my LT1 swap.

There's a guy running around Oakland county in a white Fiero base model with a Northstar stuffed in it...very professionally done...and very quick.

the easiest way to do it is with a FWD engine... a 350 or 383 is fun but a tire burner did that before... ruins the handling of the car but i rode in a northstar one that has to be the best that light little v-8 and the s/c 3800 outta a GTP grand prix was cool too plenty of go for that little car... i still have my eye out for a GT fiero with a 5 speed almost impossibal to find... some day if im lucky...

5 speed GT's aren't hard to find. I still miss my 88 Formula. It was an auto though but it was a good price and I wanted an 88 and Formulas were rare. I had to sell it to build my house. I want another one to put a SC'd 3800 in. After seeing the Grand Prix at the track last Wednesday running 9.60's on a turboed 3800 I think you can definately make them scary fast! There's been about every motor combination you can think of stuffed into a Fiero. The coolest I saw was an LT1 mounted front to back with a Porsche transaxle. The whole rear was a custom tubular setup. I've seen front engine pro-streeted ones, rear mounted big blocks, you name it. I still have a ton of Fiero parts from when I was collecting them while I had my car.

Oh yeah..the bastard I sold my car to was going to cut it up for a Ferrari Kit car. If I hadn't needed the money for my house I wouldn't have sold it to be cut up!

That's a mean 2.8 liters of High Output with 160HP(if I remember correctly) there! Don't be knocking it!

Yeah, I'm constantly amazed with what people can do with those Fiero. They can stuff just about anything in them, it's crazy.

ya that high output 2.8 in that light body and almost 50/50 weight dist... would put just about any v-6 f body to shame... i still have a GTP setup waiting for one once i can find a 5 speed... they are not half as common as you think there are tons of 4 speeds and automatics... but the 5 speed was a special edition and only in the last two years of production... i found a couple over the years but the owners dont budge very easily on them... i use to go to the fiero car club of michigan every year... some crazy cars there... some with v-12's, some porsche engines everything... i like some body kits but most are crap... the car by itself was suppose to take over the corvette and compete with the mid engine euro cars but that idea didnt fly so it became an "econo sports car" but the way its built it is pretty much a nice sports car good weight good suspension and handling... just underpowered as most cars were in the 80's smog era... so toss a nice light v-8 or a powerful v-6 and your having loads of fun taking corners you didnt think were ever possible and only riding few inches off the ground.. very unique but under appreciated car for what it is...

My Formula auto was NOT fast AT ALL. I took it to the strip and it ran a 17.22. I think the trans was a bit weak and possibly slipping a little but it was still dog slow. It handled awesome and was fun to drive which is why I loved it. I drove an 85 4 speed GT and it was much quicker than my car with the stick. If you're doing a higher HP motor swap you don't want the stock 5 speed anyways. They don't handle that much power.

they have a bullet proof kit for the fiero 5 speed handles like 750hp or so... the 4 speed can have the same thing done but still no over drive... the stock autos are junk fine for the iron duke and the plain 2.8 but even the HO 2.8 will kill the auto they had...

another thing to do is toss in a 4t60E or a 4t65E FWD tranny and build it up but its a tad more mod work and alot of wiring...

V8 Archies chop top cars look badass. The background of the blue car is a red Formula like mine! It appears to be a hardtop too.
