  • '84 TA dies to C4C

Sad to see what appears to be a very clean '84 TA that was turned in for C4C. Even the passenger's side floormat is still the original mat, notice the GM logo in the center.

All the interior trim pieces would be a perfect color match for a 15th TA..... Why can't I live closer to CA?!?!?!?

Yeah I'm questioning that too......the web site says the reason it was salvaged was "cash for clunkers"!?!?? I've tried to call the salvage yard that has it, but no response back from them yet.

I remember hearing that the salvage yards were allowed to part it out - but I didn't think they could sell the whole car? Obviously the engine has to be toast... but hey who knows.

You can sell the body or parts. They require the yard to pour this junk in the motor and drive it into the yard, therefore destroying the motor. But the body is still fair game. Think how happy a tree hugger would be with a clean TT LSX transplant in there. Yum, green hp. Eric L

That's the crazy thing. Out in CA, AZ, FL, and other warm places, those are clunkers to them, yet barely any rust and strong frames. Shame.

I was curious about that to B? I knew they couldn't sell any part of the drivetrain, and I knew they could part out the rest.......... but what about selling the rolling chassis??? (well somewhat rolling, no rearend can be resold either)

I did some research on www.cars.gov .....there may be a loop hole, in that, they can not sell the car "for use as an automobile in the United States or any other country".......does that mean that if they sell it as "scrap" it's ok to sell the rolling chassis??? That's somewhat unclear because it also states that the "entity" the dealer turns the car over to has to ensure it is "crushed or shredded". I'll let you know what I hear back from this salvage yard about that??

Below is the way the C4C law reads as far as diposing of the cars is concerned.........

                    (2) DISPOSITION OF ELIGIBLE TRADE-IN VEHICLES
                    (A) IN GENERAL- For each eligible trade-in vehicle surrendered to a dealer under the Program, the dealer shall certify to the Secretary, in such manner as the Secretary shall prescribe by rule, that the dealer-
                    (i) has not and will not sell, lease, exchange, or otherwise dispose of the vehicle for use as an automobile in the United States or in any other country; and
(ii) will transfer the vehicle (including the engine block), in such manner as the Secretary prescribes, to an entity that will ensure that the vehicle-
                    (I) will be crushed or shredded within such period and in such manner as the Secretary prescribes; and
(II) has not been, and will not be, sold, leased, exchanged, or otherwise disposed of for use as an automobile in the United States or in any other country.

Well now that I posted all that. I just got off the phone with the salvage yard, the car was indeed turned in for C4C. It also turns out they're selling the car as you see it engine, transmission, rearend, everything!! They did state that "the engine doesn't run, but if you're high bidder you will receive the car just as you see it."

The only thing I can figure is that since they're selling it for "scrap", they're able to sell it whole.
