This is just crazy. I cant believe hes gone. Literally seems like yesterday when Joel took me to Dougs house and I bought the 94 v6 for the first time. At that time he ad just got the wheels for his 74.

I definitely think it would be fitting to have a trophy named after Doug that will be hand chosen by the WMCC members who are present at the event, and I do like the idea of it being a pay-to-enter class with 100% of the proceeds going towards Ronald McDonald or U of M.

That sounds like a great idea! Also have a box for people who want to just donate as well but not be entered in the contest.

I am so sad to hear this. He was always geat to talk too about just about anything. He will be dearly missed at the car shows and other events. I wish we could make it to the funeral but we can not get time off work. Our prayers are with the family.

This was an email I had sent out to our EMCC members after getting the sad/bad news....

While some of you did not know him, many of us did and for a long time. Some of us a very long time.
I received a phone call this morning from Gary Crippen, VP of Western Michigan Camaro Club. Sometime last night or this morning, Doug Warren, passed away.
Doug was the founder and President of WMCC, which was started in 1974. Doug and I met somehow, don't even remember exactly and we found that both of us had quite a passion for our Camaro's. We were both starting Camaro clubs at the same time (that was the Camaro Club of Michigan, now disbanded). We had a great club meeting/picnic in Lansing between us and that really got the friendship and clubs going. It was in 1982 that we combined efforts and put on one of the first all Camaro events - Camaro Street Nationals at the GM Tech Center. We did that event for 10 years, when an internal CCOM struggle forced me and WMCC to leave. I with others started EMCC and we soon had our first Camaro Superfest in 1992!! WMCC had some lean years but continued to be a part of CSF each and every year. WMCC then gained membership and became a stronger club, as it is today. EMCC and WMCC were "sister" clubs for all of those years, until 3 years ago when WMCC decided to drop out of partnership on CSF.

Doug was 57-58 years old (not sure but remember he was a bit older than me) and has been on medical retirement from GM for many years, following a successful liver transplant nearly 15 years ago. In the past year or two, his liver had started to act-up and a second transplant might have been planned in a several years. Otherwise, he was doing very well and in good spirits, so his passing was unexpected. Doug loved Camaro's and had quite a collection, up to 5 I believe at one time. His original Camaro was the 1974 LT-Z28, which with the help of many dedicated WMCC members and sponsors was rebuilt for Doug and was back on the road for the last 2 years. This project was a grass-roots "over-hauled" project. Doug also owned a 85 IROC, and 2 or 3 4th gen Camaros including one of the Berger HotRod Camaros, all in white! He was also a "rocker" loving rock music and having a collection of guitars.

While Doug and I had not been talking as much, since the EMCC-WMCC split on CSF, we did send each other newsletters and did email once in a while. The last time we had talked was at the M&G in June. I was hoping to get together with him and WMCC members and EMCC members at the NEOCC show in September, but other activities kept me from attending. Doug did a lot for the Camaro clubs, both WMCC and others, was a great Camaro ambassador to everyone, even reaching new found friends in Sweeden! Our Camaro community has lost a great advocate, friend and promoter of all things Camaro and Chevrolet. He will be greatly missed!! And I have lost a long time friend....


At this early time, arrangements still have to be made and I would suspect that a funeral would be Monday or Tuesday of next week. I will be attending. If any other EMCC member wish to also go (Grand Rapids area) please let me know and we can make travel arrangements.

I think my e-mail server's settings was set to high on catching possible outgoing spam attempts, server probably saw all the e-mails attempting to go out and thought there was something on the server trying to send spam so it blocked the connection. I'm sending it again.

Unbelievably sad. Man, it seems like just yesterday he told me to take a seat in that gorgeous Berger SS and fire it up to check out the HUD.

I agree with what Kevin suggested. RIP Doug, I never had the chance to meet him but I remember him announcing the berger show at the Meet and Greet last spring.
