  • Anyone notice the site being peppy again?

    Anyone actually noticed?

Basically, as I'm sure everyone noticed, the site was REALLY lagging bad for awhile there. I had to keep rebooting the server because the server load was getting so high. At some points it was taking the site 18 seconds to load the forumhome (stats are at the bottom of each page, if you never noticed)

Well, on the 25th I went to upload something to the site only to find out the site was hacked. Again. I think they got in through meissenation.com's PHP-Nuke installation, so that's going bye-bye pretty soon here.

Anyway, when they hacked the site on the 25th, they gained access to the server and uploaded a Backdoor Virus to the server. They then proceeded to use the server to post spam on other sites. Those sites then contacted my ISP and complained, which in turn got me in trouble again. They said I had 12 hours to resolve the issue or else they'd cancel the service.

So, I put in a ticket with Platinum Server Management and within 20 minutes they were responding to my ticket saying they were investigating what was going on and I saw they had remoted into the server a few minutes after the reply. Well, a few hours later they found the backdoor and removed it. They also installed a security program which allows me to monitor what's running each process, so if someone breaches the system again and tries to run a backdoor virus, I'll see it running. *SCORE!*

Anyway, once the backdoor virus was uninstalled our server load miraculously jumped down to 0.25 - 1.0 (It was reading as high as 8 and 9 sometimes!)

So yeah, the site should have more horsepower for some of you guys to notice.

I guess I wasn't paying much attention before, but now that you mentioned, it makes sense. I just thought it was the hotel's slow internet connection last couple of weeks.
