  • Announcement! Server Upgrade 1/11-1/12

    Hi guys,

I've purchased a new, faster server for us to use thanks to a special that LimeStoneNetworks.com was doing which gets us a much newer architecture for only $2 more per month.

Our website is already using the database on the new server. I think @Atrus lost one post in the C7 Z06 thread, otherwise everyone's posts transferred over.

My next step is to point the DNS to the new server. This can take anywhere from 4 hours to 24 hours. Since the old server is already using the new server for the database, it really should be a seamless transition moving forward.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up so they're aware if they notice any funky behavior on the site today or tomorrow.

          Our old server was a Core2Quad Q9650 (4 cores, 3ghz each), 8db DDR, 350gb SATA harddrive, 100mbs connectivity.

          Our new server is a Xeon E3-1230V3 (4 cores, 8 threads, 3.3ghz each), 8gb DDR3 ECC, 60gb solid-state HD for the OS, 256gb solid-state HD for data, 100mbs connectivity.

It appears tapatalk may be down for some folks at the present time. I believe it's because of the DNS change and should be back up within a few hours.

Sorry guys - had a setting wrong in the configuration which made it be down this morning. Should be up and it should be working for Tapatalk users too.

                Tapatalk is working.

Nice upgrade, I've built a ton of servers with super micro boards and that Xeon chip, very nice performers.

Tweaked some settings in the httpd configuration file. Site seems to be running super zippy now.

Hey B - just for future reference. Have the DNS provider set the TTL on the DNS entries down to 1 minute a 4-5 hours before you plan to do your change. Then after your change is made all downstream DNS server start polling the new address in 60 seconds. 90% of the internet will be up to date with the new IP's in 10 minutes or less

I actually had it set up pretty sweet, it was just a line in the httpd configuration that was missing which caused the issue.

Otherwise I thought I had it set up pretty sweet. I dumped the mysql database on the old server, FTP'ed it to the new server, imported the database on the new server, and then told the old server's MiFBody.com config to use the database on the new server. That way whether your DNS said to use the old site or the new site, either way it'd be using the new server's database. Then I changed the DNS and regardless of how long it took for everyone's DNS to update they'd be able to seamlessly use the website.

Well - the main thing -- does the site seem super fast for everyone? Seems like posts refresh and get posted almost instantly, and traveling from page to page is rather quick.
