  • Announcement! September's Detroit Examiner FBody of the Month!

Congrats again to Rick for getting featured in September's FBody of the Month article!

    http://www.examiner.com/autos-in-det...y-of-the-month

Today, with the help of the folks at MIFBody.com, I bring you the September 2010 F-Body of the Month. Last month, we featured a beautifully restored 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible and while we stay with the Firebird, this month we look at one of the BADBIRD’s of Michigan – Rick Geiger’s 2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6.

Other than just being fast and in great shape, Rick’s car has a dramatic story behind it. After Rick purchased the car and had begun modifying it, he was t-boned by a minivan going 40mph that had run a red light. Rick escaped without major injury but the same was not true of the car. Rick credits the help of the body shop in preventing the car from being totaled out and once Rick knew that he was getting the car back, the process began to rebuild the car. The end result is an awesome sleeper, as I’ve come across Rick’s WS6 at many car shows and in the gallery to the left, you can see that his Firebird is no stranger to the drag strip.

Rick had this to say about his 2001 WS6:
    SERIAL #---------143 is build #56 of 2001 WS6’s built that year TOTAL BUILT= 7,869
    7,088 T-TOPS 3,751 AUTO TRANS 1,509 RED which this car is 1 of 1,103 RED,T-TOP,AUTO TRANS WS6’s combo’s for 2001

We bought the car in 5/02 w/4,000 mi., it was rebuilt in 10/03 due to $19,000 accident! We felt like the car saved us and we wanted to save it. As of right now it's a stock LS1 w/full bolt ons mated to 4L60E Trans that is full race build, programmed and 3200 stall converter. Recently smoothed the fenderwells and tried to clean up engine bay by relocating some things, filling in others, but still have "stock" appearance. While the smoothed cowl w/gauges is easier too spot you can really tell other differences w/another bird next to it. I wanted to have a street/strip car, so it's adjustable from spring perches for height (total 4"), and KYB 8 way shocks to help control, Lakewood adj.traction action bars, and 100 shot nitrous at flick of switch and swap extra set wheels/tires for strip. Best time to date is 11.42 at 119, (keeping up with head /cam cars) always trying to improve and hope to have a 8-9 sec pro street car when done. As of now it has round 77,000 mi of fun on her and love driving around checking out different spots around the state.

Have to THANK my family for the all the support and advice as well as all the friends at Michigan Fbody Association (check out site to find out where 01BADBIRD idea came from(being rebuilt from accident)/going(drawings for BADBIRD idea) and more and some of the finest F-Bodies anywhere!
