Hey guys,
I gained some knowledge late last week of some issues that might be coming up for the current host provider that we use. I had already planned on switching to a different provider to lower our monthly hosting costs (now that I have a mortgage, I gotta tighten my belt as much as possible
) but this just sped up the process.
I already have our new server online, it's current as of yesterday night @ 11pm.
At some point, I'm going to be switching us over to the new server. Speed of the server is exactly the same - the only things we gained is more bandwidth and cheaper cost.
The last step that we will have before we can go live with the new server will be to do one last backup of the database on our current server and transfer it over to the new server. I started a transfer at 9:44am and I'm checking to see how long this process takes. Ideally, I'd like to make it so we have no outage but I just don't think it will be possible to switch over with no lost data unless I turn the site off for a few hours.
In any case - I wanted to give everyone a heads up of what's going on. I've got the next two weeks off from school so now is a perfect time to knock this out.
Edit: Wow - that took all of 5 minutes. Sweet! Our outage should be pretty short lived then. I'll still try to do it so that it won't disrupt everyone.
