I found a new add-on on vBulletin.org which I thought was quite useful. For those of you familiar with e-mail systems, there is a thing called an RBL. An RBL is a list of IP addresses which have been deemed to be spammers.
StopForumSpam.com has put together a forum RBL - they're keeping a database of usernames, IP addresses, and registration e-mail addresses of known spammers and they give the ability for websites to dynamically query the database to find matches.
The newest add-on that I just installed will automatically check a new user's username, IP address, and e-mail address against the StopForumSpam.com database before the registration is accepted and if it finds a match it tells the user that we have an active policy against spammers and to use the "Contact Us" link if they believe they're receiving it in error.
In any case - it should severely hinder the abilities of known spammers coming onto our site and spamming. The main reason why I added this is because there's a recent breakout amongst a handful of the sites I belong to where someone registers on the site and then sends mass PMs out to all the users with a link to their site. It happened to me on Camaro5.com, happened to LtxTech.com, and another non-car related site that I belong to. Just wanted to be proactive.
