I'll look into this Avast. I have used Norton for years, and have not noticed any ill effects on my computers performance. I have a Dell XPS with an Intel Pentium Dual Core running at 3.00GHz. 2.00GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

Jesus, nevermind, just for fun you could run 3-4 sessions of Norton and not phase that thing, lol. Getting rid of Norton and running Avast is for those of use pushing the limits of our PC's that aren't running a god like PC

Nice computer Doug, very nice, wanna trade? I would still recommend Avast, it catches more, uses less system resources and is free.

:X2: Hell at home I'm running on a P4 dell inspiron with 2.4ghz processor, 512 mb ram, and a 40 gb HD, mines a boat anchor compared to his. And I'm going to try to get another 2 years out of it, lol.

When I bought this computer a couple of years ago, I tried to get something that wouldn't go obsolete in a couple of months. I bought the "biggest, latest" one I could get at the time.

Should be fine for another 3-4 years at least.

Just for kicks, I looked at what they have now that's tops, its a Quad core running at 2.5 Ghz, with 4 GB ram and a 750 Gb HD. You would have to be running a lot of applications on yours before you noticed a difference between yours and that, so your sitting good.

While that's fast I was just talking computers that were in the average consumers hand.

If we really want to talk about a fast computer, we just had a professor buy a Mac Pro with Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon . That is a $1600 dollar option , as well as 8 gb of ram and 4 ATI 2600 graphic cards. That means she can output to 8 monitors. Fricking crazy.


I have an Intel C2D and the only thing that has ever actually taped its power is enconding DVD's and running OSX and Vista, at the sametime.
Its amazing how many different things newer computers can do at the same time.

I need to upgrade mine soon. A64 and 6800GS is finally starting to show it's age.
