Unfortunately dialup just... isn't meant for the web.

x4. I realize that cable isn't available to most of you guys due to location, but alas I don't know what I can do to make the site more userfriendly for dialup... with images turned off, the only thing I can think of is to maybe download Opera browser (or Firefox if you normally use Internet Explorer) to use it for the sole purpose of browsing these types of sites through dialup. Opera (as well as the others, but the point was to have a seperate browser that you don't use as your main browser) will strip all color, backgrounds, and images from the site so it will be a boring black text white background no images. Might make it faster to browse, but again, no guarantees.- Brian Meissen

Understandable, but like I said I don't know what I can really do to make it easier for you guys -- if you already have the images off and what not, that should cut down on a lot of the load time.- Brian Meissen

Luckily I moved to GR and got cable before I started using these type of sites. I can't imagine having to wait on dial up. I know when I was on dial up out in the boonies I had and excellerator that was part of my providers software that you could change the quality of all images and graphics to be really low so that the text would be the main thing that loaded. I don't know who you guys have but I had Earthlink dial up and it worked pretty well.
On a side note, I just downgraded from 6 Meg cable to 384k because Comcast decided to up my rate and rape me on it. The only other speed they had to offer was the 384k for $25 a month so I thought I'd try it. Downloads are a little slower, but still, not bad at all, for the $25 a month in savings, I can more than live with it, this site still loads within a couple seconds no problem. So I'm happy with it.

Also another question -- is this site horribly worse than, say, Camaroz28.com or LS1tech.com on load time for the same pages (viewing a thread on all three sites, forumhome on all three sites, replying on all three sites)- Brian Meissen

if any of you dial up guys happen to have two phone lines you can run dual modems. unfortunately youre kinda up a creek living in an area without cable. That was my situation for a LONG time and i hated it.-Joel

Brian Yes it is slower than Camaroz28.com, I not sure about ls1tech.com. I will try it tonight and time it on each and let you know.Originally posted by meissenAlso another question -- is this site horribly worse than, say, Camaroz28.com or LS1tech.com on load time for the same pages (viewing a thread on all three sites, forumhome on all three sites, replying on all three sites)Western Michigan Camaro Club ~ President
