• New East Side Trans Am Member!

Hi guys and gals!

My name is Derek, and I live near 75 and 696. I own a '94 Trans Am LT1, which I bought from the original owner in 2001. She has about 75k original miles on her, and she is only driven during the summer months (she sees more garage than road here in Michigan). She's mostly stock, but last year I ditched the exhaust. I put on some long-tube headers, a new 3" Y, 3" stainless Magnaflow cat-back, and ditched the cat altogether. She definitely needs some maintenance care, and I have a list of tweaks I'd like to do too. Unfortunately, I don't have enough skill or time these days (a demanding job, wife, house, and toddler)! I am certainly looking for some advice, as to a mechanic I can trust, to help me with the work. Frankly, I am sick of going through bad ones! I need someone honest, reliable, reasonable, and friendly! Is that too much to ask these days!?

It's a pleasure meeting ya'll, and I really look forward to some face-time in the near future! Let me know what's up!

Hi Derek, welcome to MiFBody! Sounds like you might be a neighbor of Darren !

My top list of go-to mechanics in this area are MasterWorks Automotive, near 14 Mile and Stephenson in Madison Heights. Check in with bri2203 here at MiFBody and see what their shop schedule looks like. They are primarily a Corvette and collector car restoration services type shop, and they have been able to perform a lot of the work I've needed for my Red Beast -- including the custom paint striping on my SS hood, which to me is so slick and well-executed that it's practically my favorite part of the whole car (until I get the LS1 swap done, that is). I would also give a shout-out to TLC Car Care on the corner of 12 Mile and Main (Livernois) in Royal Oak.

Thanks for the kind words Kevin.
Yes, we would be glad to help you out or point you in a direction for your concerns.

As far as TLC.
For the past few years Mark ran the business. He no longer works there so I do know how the shop is being ran or what kind of work they are doing now.

Sounds like you are a very close neighbor to me! I am at 696 and Ryan, if you are close I am sure you have heard my obnoxious 1992 Camaro, or seen my bright red C5 Corvette around, welcome to the neighborhood!

I second Brian and Masterworks, top notch shop and guys all around. My car is there now having some work done I would not have taken it anywhere else. They have also repaired my wife's cruze and countless of other work.

Agreed. Brian has helped me out on multiple occasions as well.

Ah, well, it's been a couple years since I had the car to TLC, so if Mark is no longer there, all bets are off. He liked to work with custom exhaust, so he helped remedy the botch job that a muffler shop did on my SLP Dual-Duals.

Yeah Mark did a great job on my car as well, but like Brian has said he has left TLC so who knows whats going to go on there now.

When did he leave? He was who welded up a new flange on my Cobalt - but that was last June or July. At least I'm pretty sure it was him - hard to remember.

germ79 - Thanks, bro. DynoDave - Thanks for having me! I am excited to be part of a community, finally! ktl711 - That's very helpful, man. I got some work I need and want very soon. I'll be making some calls... bri2203 - I will be in touch very soon. Darren - Man, I'm a mile up the road! We'll get together one of these days then. MP81 - Thanks for chiming in. That helps!

Sounds like TLC is no longer a sure bet. I wonder where Mark went then? I will check out Brian and MasterWorks for sure. Very valuable advice, all. Much appreciated! I'll start another post for my needs, etc. Thanks for the warm welcomes, all!
