  • learned of the forum through my uncle...

He was a member and posted a lot here (he passed away in August 2012, i believe his ID was "My1996Z28") . Im currently trying to help my sisters boyfriend find a buyer for his 1988 Trans Am ("GTA") When he bought it a few years ago he was told it was a real GTA, but he began to do more research and, although he has never been able to say 100% either way, he accepted the fact that he was likely scammed and it was a clone. Ive looked into a few things myself to try to get a definite answer and it looks like he was right, but because the factory equipped RPO option sticker was removed, its not a guaranteed yes or no. We all know that just the absence of that label is suspicous and was probably done just for this reason but you never know. It is a 5.0 (305) and not the 5.7 (350) as the previous seller had told him. Its still a pretty clean car, does need some work, but will be listed in the "cars for sale" section if interested.

Welcome to the site Keith. Your uncle Mike was a cool guy - a handful of us went to his funeral when he passed. Hopefully someone on the site here will be interested in the car.

Welcome to MiFBody -- hopefully some of the Firebird guys with indepth knowledge will chime in to help you with ID'ing the car. If you have $65 to spare, the sure fire way to document it is to send your VIN in to Pontiac Historical Services. You will learn everything you need to know about the way your car was originally built.

        Welcome aboard Keith.

Being an '88, I'm not sure if PHS can help. It gets a little confusing. But I think the only option for the later cars is the GM Heritage Center. Check them both out carefully before you order anything.
