  • i think i got one! (camaro ss 1Le)

im new to this site and am glad to connect with other f body owners. i have alot of questions. to start, can someone tell me if my car is a 1le? i know they are a rare car but this 1998 camaro ss i have seems to match alot if not all the criteria. 1st clue; no power windows, no power locks. i would think a camaro ss 4th gen would have power windows but perhaps someone ordered this one back when it was new from the dealership without those options. 2nd clue; i have no cruise control! which kinda sucks! however who doesnt want cruise control? however this black camaro does not have it nor did it come from the factory with it.(it just has the plain ole turn signal stick and only one throttle cable) again it could be just how the first owner ordered it. 3rd clue; this is where it gets weird. after all the research ive done i came across a post that said one indicative detail is that you can only open the rear hatch with the key. lo and behold my 1998 black camaro where the hatch has to be open with the door key as there is absolutely no trunk popper anywhere on the car. ive looked. i would think i would be able to tell if it actually was one through the vin but i just dont know. any help is greatly appreciated and i hope you guys have the energy for all my crazy questions because i just dont shut up.

It would have 1LE on the RPO sticker in the door jamb, but it''s more commonly known as a stripper car when they were ordered like that.

Pulled brake lines off a 1998 1LE car last week.

From what I've read, three 98 SS 1LE cars were made. One silver, one navy blue, and one black.

        Is it a hard top?

Edit: Found a pretty thorough production numbers .pdf file. Looks like 4 SS 1LE cars were built in 98. All four were hard top 6 speed cars.

              Welcome to MiFBody, Ross!

Here is an example of what you should be looking for on your car, located on the rear of the door inner panel. It should be visible every time you open your door to get into the car.

If your car is a true 1LE, that code will appear on your Service Parts Identification label, sometimes called a SPID label.

Even if it doesn't have a 1LE designation, it still sounds like you have a pretty rare "stripper" SS! Post up some pics!

I have seen many of these no option SS cars before. Some with no rear defroster and cloth interior with a manual drivers seat.
