It sounds like your opti is not seated all the way on. That would cause it to stick out and rub against your crank. It will feel like it's on, but it's not. Try it a couple ways and you will be able to see when it's on properly. There is not much room between the opti and the crank pulley, but they absolutely should not touch. The opti is sensitive and everything has to be just right or it won't run right.

Sorry to hear about the car breakin on you... oil leak was all i knew was bad on it which i did tell you about. As far as the rest of it it was really bad timing i suppose. But then again i owned it for a year and put less than 3k miles on it so i never really gave the opportunity for it to break and its been sitting in the garage almost three months til you bought it. Best of luck with it man and enjoy it. very fun car to drive n pretty quick for what it is

how do you know the water pump is for sure bad? can you see a leak or do you just see coolant splashed everywhere? we drained the coolant recently and some may have splashed lol

ya it was bad timing josh lol. but no we got under it and could see it leaking, when we tore the pump off the paper gaskets were destroyed. we took the opti off and there was a puddle of coolant inside it. i got a new one from a guy in dearborn hts but its slightly bent in a couple spots, obviously by machine, things clean as a whistle. but its not fitting all together right. im stumped right now and frustrated. were thinking of buying one from pep boys and bringing this one back saying its all bent up and demanding our money back. this things a real pain in the ass. but on the bright side, the 4 days i had it running it was fun as hell!

Sounds like the water pump is responsible for killing the opti.... Exactly the brilliance of GMs design on that engine. Good luck, you'll get it fixed up again.

i just got done getting it all back together. gonna let the gasket seal up for a day or so, drop in some new coolant, and let her ride. started her up for a few seconds n she came back to life. definitely the opti causing the problem and the pump causing the bad opti.
