  • New (but Old) member from Ann Arbor

Just wanted to say hello from Ann Arbor. Just joined the group (hence, the new), bought myself a 2k12 camaro 2LT/RS convertible in rally yellow, manual tranny, for my 65th birthday present (hence, the old). Best decision I've made in years, except for the fact that my wife loves the car so much that she takes it every day, leaving me with her Honda CR-V. Ain't I lucky getting the CRV?

Wanted a gen 5 Camaro ever since they first came out, but at the time there were no deals to be had, so I leased a (don't hit me) then-new 2009 Mustang GT. It was a great car, but it pales in comparison with the fun factor for the Camaro. Warm day, put the top down (which is how my wife always brings the car home), turn on Cousin Brucie on XM (Ch. 6) on Wednesday evenings, and go cruising. Just like when I was a teenager, only about 47 years later.

Wish I had sprung for a SS instead of the V6, but I guess that'll have to wait until I turn 70.

Don't know about how careful I have to be about the 1500 mile "break-in," but no matter: Only have about 50 miles left, then I'm gonna see how I can smoke those Pirellis.

Welcome to the site Marshal! You'll love the car. Although I'm not sure how big of an issue oil consumption is on the 2012 model compared to the 2010-2011, I would recommend getting an oil catch can for it. It goes between the hose which runs from the passenger side of the engine up to the intake manifold. Because the 2010+ engines are Direct Injected, the fuel isn't being injected into the manifold and flowing over the valves. Overtime carbon and gunk will build up on the valves and you'll get power loss. The oil catch can stops oil from being dumped into the intake manifold and burned out through the combustion chamber.

I have a 2012 myself and will have a better idea of how well the oil catch can works over the weekend when I change my oil and drain the can.
