I appreciate the offer on the VIN ID. I will send them soon. Can you tell which rear end it has w/ the VIN also?

Nope...unless Kev has access to something special that's internal to GM.

But it will be a GM corporate 10-bolt with a range of gears (don't let that scare you...it's not anything like the 4th gen 10-bolts). There's a 2-character code followed by a build date on the front passenger side axle tube, and if it's original, will be one of these found here (Hitman's 2nd gen site is a MUST for anyone owning one of these cars):

If it has rear disc brakes, it is most likely a WS6 car.

But it might be a good idea to get the VIN to Pontiac Historical Services...

Jeff has already answered this well, but I'll affirm it anyway -- for something of that vintage, I don't have direct access to the build documentation. Once we determine your original motor from the VIN plate code, we can pretty much tell what rear axle ratios would have been available for the car. Only Pontiac Historical Services would be able to give you the actual doco, though.

For late 4th and all 5th Gen cars, the build info can be found in the GM warranty system.

Didnt get it hauled today...but got some tires that hold air on it, and pick up/drop off is set for Wednesday.

I am soooo ready to get this thing cleaned up and put back together.

My father in law should be joining here pretty soon, as well as the guy who I got my car from. Both TA owners also.

My father in laws is close to being done. Drives dependably and looks great doing it. Just needs a bit more interior work, and he would like to get a posi rear end hes got rebuilt and installed, as well as have the engine rebuilt with a couple more performance goodies added.

Think I found a deal I cant pass up......

A 305 (that might be a 350, not sure yet) that ran great before it was pulled. Comes with a trans and torque converter that worked great also. Engine is pretty complete- Intake, carb, alternator, flywheel. Just doesnt have the radiator or exhaust mani/headers. It does come with the pipes, mani back, and some california turbo mufflers that were previously installed on a Z28. $350....might have to jump on this deal, to get the car rolling, even if it is just for short term. I am thinking a 455 eventually, but think this will be a good start, for now.

I'd have to look in the barn, but I used to have one or two 400 pontiac motors in there. Not sure if they went to the scrap yard

That would be my father. He sees little value in anything that sits around for a bit. I found a list tonight that had my 305, 97 rear housing, and the old front front bumper/chin spoiler from my IROC all on the docket for the next scrap run. What. The. F***.

I think he scrapped a running inline 6 that came out of the 67 Firebird, a BOP th350 or th400, numerous 3 speed manuals that came with my Bel Air, etc etc

Got the TA in the garage. I hope to start cleaning it up this weekend.
