  • need any good condition engine parts for rebuild

so, im fairly new to this forum, but getting to know some names

i have a oldsmobile 455 out of a 442 (block number 396021F)... the engine runs just fine, runs really well actually- but because of the year it was made (71-72) its not as good quality as the 68-70 ones... planning on taking apart the engine to clean it soon anyways...

any good parts from a 68-70 engine with 396021F on the block i can get my hands on to swap out with mine would be great!

    thanks

(been contacting GM to see if they might help... not worth the time, lol)

Without knowing a whole lot about these engines, I think the biggest difference would be the cam and heads. Depending on how far you are taking it down, a new cam and lifters might be worth looking into. Other than that, clean it up really well and lay on a fresh coat of paint. Sand and paint the engine bay, also put some time into that radiator setup Also, make a bracket for that adjustable proportioning valve!!! Yikes. On second look, why do you have two proportioning valves?

hehe- the second "proportioning valve" is actually a line lock

and yeah- pretty much the only difference is the compression ratio and cam... just need a cam and parts to raise my ratio

thanks aaron- ill try that website

The one with the knob? That's not a line lock, but you can use it like one I guess

I'll post a pic of my install if I can find it, might give you some ideas on how to clean up the bay a bit.

This is how I did my Bel Air. I used a piece of stock aluminum and bent it, drilled some holes, ran the lines, and it's good to go. I can't find most of my pictures

              Keep pluggin' away!

                  OK- so...

been looking at tons of different websites, and calling different places... Its going to cost me a lot to get parts to increase my compression ratio...
I may go the turbo route-- if anyone has a turbo kit (turbo, piping, inter-cooler, blow-off valve, etc.) I wouldnt mind looking at a price range to compare with engine parts!

P.S-- the engine is a 71 olds 455.... may be harder to find a turbo made for it, but idk....

Expect about 2-3 thousand minimum using quality parts and doing all the fabricating yourself.

thats what i was thinking- both routes are costly... thing is a turbo kit doesnt take as long to get set up. i still dont even have anywhere to get parts for a compression ratio increase xD still looking though- ill find somewhere that has parts
