  • 94 Firebird Formula from Dearborn

    Hello, Im Dave

Just bought my Firebird Formula 4 days ago from East Detroit. 94 with 120k, t tops, automatic, came with 20's and two MTX 12"s, 3 in exhaust from y pipe to tip (i want duals). It runs GOOD but not GREAT. It has some issues that need to be taken care of and what better forum than one for our cars in our state. So hello all. Guy i bought it from said that the guy he bought it from said its bored over to a 396... It doesnt sound like it but then again its not running right either way i was gonna buy it. I havent done anything besides fuel filter, seafoam, lucas deep clean fuel treatment, cleaned iac and tb, pcv. I know it needs some other things but I need some help narrowing it down. I plan on doing plugs/wires/coil but i dont wanna jump into anything else (guessing:tps, map, fpr, egr) unnecessary if i dont need to.

If you are local (im near ford road and telegraph) and can come take a look real quick thatd be GREAT

    here are some pictures:

Welcome! I'm pretty sure you would have to bore and stroke the LT1 to hit 396... Sharp color tho. Are you keeping the wheels?

396 is done with a 3.875" crank and a .030 overbore - and there is a good chance he was lying about it.

I didnt expect him to be telling the truth considering where i was buying it from and the fact it had 20s on it. Yeah im gonna keep the 20's, im not gonna really race it, i just want it to run right. Im also not willing to dump cash into rims, if i was gonna dump cash into anything itd be motorwork. Honestly all i remember is what i wrote, he couldve said bored and stroked but i really didnt care what he said because i was inspecting the shit i figured he was lying about.

I LOVE THE COLOR. Its purple but metallica gunmetal grey mixed in. Stock paint but ive never seen it before. Youd have to see it in person to grasp what im saying. Also my girls camera sucks hence the blurry pictures.

And about the 396, the fuel pump is fairly loud which makes me think he might have been telling the truth and the exhaust is a 3" thats extremely well welded. But at the same time, stock exhaust manifold, shitty oem intake (needs to be replaced w/ cold air cause of tears in rubber before tb,) and other things of that nature. Fuel filter was fine though, so was pcv but i replaced em anyway for piece of mind.

Welcome to the site, Dave! Those rims fit right in for East Detroit / Dearborn I hope you get rid of them and buy something more... fitting... for an fbody. Be social and join in on the conversations - we're a really social site. Do you know if he ever got the car tuned for the engine work he did?

i was never doubting your judgement, just agreeing with you and saying what would have needed to be done if he was telling the truth.

dude go to this place called t and m auto salvage i cant remember where it is right this second but they have a 97 camaro with EXTREMELY nice grey cloth interior with anniversary stiching. But i stole the center console and the headliner so i hope you didnt need those. Try and walk in without them seeing and walk out the same way cause they overcharge so i snuck my center console out. Body on the car is immaculate too.
