  • New Camaro Owner Near Grand Rapids

    Hello Everyone,

My name is Troy and I'm from Jenison, just southwest of Grand Rapids. I purchased my first GM product, a '96 Camaro Z28 convertible, about a week ago, wanted something my wife and I could have fun with during the summer months. Its' got 60,000 miles on it, Quasar Blue color, black leather and the automatic trans (for the wife). I'll try to get some pictures up but right now I'm in the middle of getting it all cleaned up. It had a nice thick coat of dust on everything when I bought it, in and out, I'm kind of a clean freak so it may take awhile, haha. We did change the oil today and noticed a small oil leak coming from the back of the intake and the passenger side valve cover, also the transmission pan is leaking a little too, probably from sitting too long, but this is another topic. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to learning a lot...

Thanks all for the quick welcome. I'll get some pictures up hopefully tomorrow.

I'm still getting used to how this forum is setup and am having trouble figuring out where to post a question regarding what are some reputable shops near Grand Rapids that you guys trust with your LT1's, or if there are any individuals that have experience working on these cars that wouldn't mind fixing some things on my car, making a little money, and teaching me along the way.

              Thanks...

Welcome to the site! The intake manifold leak is a common issue with the LT1s. Well, oil leaks in general too.. I'll never forget one thread I saw on another forum and it was asking "Who can honestly say their LT1 does not leak one drop?"

A good shop in your area to get work done would be the Hansen-Dyke Automotive shop right across from the GVSU entrance. Travis, 97rs4life, works there and they do good work from what I've heard.

Thanks for the information, I'll get in touch with them. I don't mind a little oil seepage but puddles in the driveway are concerning.

Here's a pictures of what it looked like when I got it. Although it only has 60k on it, it looks like its been sitting in a dust storm. I've got a lot of detailing work ahead of me. I would have pulled her out of the garage but I've already got all the seats removed for cleaning. I know, horrible picture of a dirty car, buy hey, it's a least a picture, haha.
