  • Whats up from Pontiac!

How's it going guys? My name is Toney, recently turned 18, and im from Pontiac. I recently picked up, what i believe is the cleanest car i have ever owned, lol out of 8 cars. It is a 1986 Camaro Iroc-z, it currently does not have an engine or trans, both in the building process. I saw a link over at thirdgen.org and figured this is a more area convenient place for me. Plans for the car are: 350 SBC 4 bolt main bored .040 over, 440/460 Comp Cams camshaft, 202 heads, stock internals for now, 700r4 trans, posi rear end, different wheels, and a Black Cherry paint job. The car is all stock except for gauges and has been converted to run a carb. It has 74k original miles, 1 tiny spec of rust, and pretty clean inside and out. I traded a 90 Buick Regal for it because well, we all learned at a young age that front wheel drive sucks! It was a deal that i couldn't pass up. I'm hoping to have the car ready before May but time will tell how well it turns out. I do all the work myself, with the help of my dad, in our garage, even the paint. While I'm here, I'm hoping to get as much info as possible from fellow enthusiasts, as well as share my experience with all of you every step of the way. Here's some pictures that I currently have, and will get more when the car gets it's first wash in over 3 years. Yes the car sat for 3 years! And it is too clean to believe.
    On with the pictures!

Getting the motor and trans ready to be pulled.

Front bumper, notice the spider webs?

    1 tire fire FTL!

Yes! 74k miles. Lowest mileage car i have EVER owned.

T-tops off, notice the boxes on the roof? Brand new t-top seals. They are expensive!

    Hood

Salad tossers? That's what they are called on another forum

The rust spot. Told you it was small

Water temp and oil pressure gauges

B&M Shifter, Will be replace. It's not a 4 speed shifter.

I was told these are pace car door panels. Are they?

    Previous owner picture.

Alright that's all for now. Also the previous owner has ran the car before with a personal best of 15 seconds in a quarter mile. Not too bad but it will be faster soon!

Welcome to the site! You'll want to be sure to meet Darrenscamaro and BigJon, as they have both got 3rd Gen projects going right now.

Im actually looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys. I have worked on a couple of 4th gens recently and i have to say, they were a piece of cake. Do you guys usually do Dream Cruise events? Im usually with another car club for 91-96 Caprice's and Impala's but you never know things may change this year or maybe hang out with both.

Welcome to the site, so can you give us a little more info on that car? The previous owner is on here and for a second (just a second) I thought about buying that car. But the whole no title, now I have a title and shadyness scared me away from it. So can you fill me in? None the less it looks like a clean roller to start and nice 3rd gen build. I love the thirdgens, as I have a 92 myself thats going under the knife (per say). We hang out on woodward a lot, down at Auto Europe (AE) make sure to come by this summer and also make it to our Meet and Great car shows!

Welcome to the site! How have you gone through 8 cars? Damn I thought I was bad and I am on my 5th car(but I still have the second) but I am 5 years older than you.
                      Keep up updated.

IMO Paint it black.....not black cherry.

Welcome to the site. That spot on the A-pillar is a common rust spot on the 3rd gens, as well as the lower portion of the door, and very bottom of the rear quarter overhangs. And I'm assuming that when you're referring to black cherry you mean Brandywine--happens to be my favorite color but I wouldn't have it on anything but a 1st gen. It also seems like it'd be terribly hard to paint in that color.

                        Used to own a Firebird.

Ahhhh Auto Europe. My sister drools everytime we drive by there. I was kinda worried about the trade aswell but you know sometimes you have to give people a chance to pull through with it. Spencer is a cool guy and I had no problems getting the title transferred after he received it. Hopefully like i said, the car will be ready and i can make it to a meet. I was a little weary(sp?) about it at first but we made a deal that we could trade and i keep my title until he got his and mail and low and behold the title showed up the day before i went and picked up the car

It's actually nice that got a good response from you guys here. Over at 3rdgen.org or whatever it is, seemed like everyone was hating on my pickup. Regardless, I have plans for this car and plan on keeping it for sometime. And for paint, Brandywine, I'll have to look that up on google. I like the Dark Green almost a forest metallic that's on the car now. It's such a good base to start from that I was surprised on how well the condition of the car is. Needs a fender but will most likely pop the dent out on it or just replace it.

I'd also like to set up the intake to suck the air that comes in from the front bumper on either sides of the nose. It should be possible to fab something up and any ideas would be cool
