    Hello from upstate New York!

I was doing a search for some F-bod information, and a discussion from this site came up. It appears that you have a lot of good technical information here, so I registered for membership. Hopefully, I can add to that information base, as well as gain some new information for my projects....

Currently, the car is in the garage for the winter. My main priority is to once again, try to get all the oil leaks dried up, as the car has become a bit of a "seeper" over the years. I'm a bit frustrated, as I replaced the rear main, all the front cover seals, and of course, a new oil pan gasket last spring, only to have it start dripping again, a few weeks later. I found out later, however, that the water pump drive seal is one of those PTFE seals, and should be installed dry, which I didn't do. I gave it a swipe with an oil dampened Q-tip prior to assembly.....

The torque converter inspection cover also started filling with oil again, and I'm not sure what the deal is there. The intake manifold gaskets and seal have been done every 3-4 years since the car was new, as that seems to be how long the RTV at the manifold ends lasts before drying out. They're not due till this spring, and while I have the manifold off, I'm replacing the oil pressure sending unit, as I hear that they can become "leakers" over time. Nonetheless, I can't do any of this until the weather gets a little warmer, as the Permatex Tech people assure me that it has to be at least 32 degrees in the garage, for the RTV to properly set up. It's barely 20 degrees here today.

In the meantime, since I couldn't work on the leaks, I decided to do some mechanical work. I had a set of the Eibach pro-kit coils in the car, along with a set of the "SLP Bilstein" shocks. The Eibachs went in the car back in the winter of 95-96, while it was off the road. There weren't too many choices for shocks back then, so I used the OE DeCarbons, figuring they were brand new....Bad move, as the car rode like a buckboard. In the spring of 2000, I put the Bilsteins in, and was pretty well satisfied with the improvement in ride and handling. However, I've been hearing a lot about the Sam Strano springs, and Koni shock combination, and the Bilsteins had a little over 40,000 miles on them and seemed a little soft, so I threw the Strano/Koni set up in a couple of weeks ago. We'll see if they live up to their reputation, once the winter is gone, and the car goes back on the road.....

I didn't have a digital camera until this past Christmas, so I don't have any good pictures that are easily postable. However, once the car is back on the road in the spring, I'll take a few pictures, then try to figure out how to post them...
