  • Berger 69 Z/28

Hey Guys & Gals!!!!!!! My name is Steve & I have a 69 Z/28 that was sold new at Berger Chevy in Grand Rapids. Does anyone know if Berger did anything special with a Z or were they all just COPO cars? My car has a lot of aftermarket parts on the engine & was wondering if they were installed by the dealership or previous owner. Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

Welcome Steve and enjoy the site!

69 Zs weren't COPO cars...there were several dealer installed options available...and Berger was more than willing to spend your money.

Hard to tell unless you have documentation...

I didn't mean that the Z was a COPO, I was wondering if Berger did anything special with anything other than a COPO. This car currently resides in Arkansas with me, although I am from Coloma, MI originally.

              Hi Steve,

Welcome aboard. Berger has been our Club sponsor for over 20 years. I have been around lots of Berger cars from back in the day, and don't recall ever hearing about Berger doing anything special to Z28's as a rule. However, it would not be beyond possibilities that individules had Berger do things to their cars when they bought them.

Before you ask, Berger does NOT have any records from that time frame. Unfortunately, they were all destroyed sometime in the 80's.

Perhaps you can come to the annual Berger Chevrolet All Chevy Show in August. There are always a bunch of the "old guys" around there then that could add some insight to how things were at the dealership back then.

It would be great to have your car at the show, too. Over the years, we've had several old Berger Cars make the trip back "home".
RIP Doug,You will always be remembered

                Hey Doug,

This thread has just shaken my memory...but I used to work with a contractor who was an original owner of a 69 Berger Z28...white with black interior...that he had the cross-ram and headers installed on it when new, but wasn't raced...he would be 58-62 years old now and lived a bit north of GR...

Any idea of who it is?

                A reach, I know...lol...

Thanks for the invite Doug. I may try to make it up next August. What made me think about my car having dealer installed stuff is the rear end cover. It is a finned alloy cover that looks like one I saw in a pic of a Nickey Camaro. It doesn't have a crossram, but does have a Weiand intake from that era. I'll try to post pics of the car tomorrow. Maybe some of you know the car. It was in the Grand Rapids/Hastings area all its life until about a month ago, when I took possession of it.

                        Steve,

One of our Club members, is sort of a Berger historian of sorts and happens to live in the Alto area. He has a nice car collection and has owned several Berger Camaros. He owns the only 67 Z28 Berger ever sold, as well as a Grand Rapids Edition '67 Camaro, a Berger exclusive.

If anyone from our Club would know about your Camaro, I would put my money on him. Unfortunately, he does not have a computer and therefore, is not a member here on this board (like many of our members are).

I'll try to ask him if he knows anything about your car .................
