Hi everyone. My name is Andy. This past Friday, I drove down to Fort Wayne, Indiana and handed over the keys of this:

    2000 Cavalier Z-24

    For this:

    1999 Camaro V6 M5

Needless to say, I'm very happy with the trade at this point. The exterior of the Camaro is in unreal condition given the car is 11 years old. It is a BLAST to drive around a rear wheel drive car! I love how the back end squats down when you hammer the throttle, the car shoots forward and it puts you back in your seat. That is something my Cavalier was never able to do.

Mechanically, the car is in need of a couple of things. The first being that I noticed there's a wobble on the passenger side that's pretty rough at 60mph. If I dig into a corner while at this speed, it get's a little rougher, so I'm assuming it's a wheel bearing or something similar in the rotating assembly that's going out. I will have to look further into that. Second, the trans mount is shot since the stick moves around like it's alive.

Given the fact that the car's exterior is in such fantastic shape, I'm looking to preserve this car for many years to come. With that, I've been seriously considering coating the entire underside of the car with POR-15 including inner rear quarter panels, underbody suspension components, etc. Adding that extra 20lbs or so of paint of the car is totally worth it to me if I can prevent the majority of it from rusting.

As far as my past goes, I'm a former member of www.j-bom.com, Michigan's largest J-Body club who I've been with ever since the beginning. I put a lot of time and effort into my 2000 Cavalier Z-24 which has been supercharged, then remote turbocharged (yes, I said remote), and then supercharged again. Details and a buttload of pictures of the remote turbocharger system can be found at http://www.j-bom.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3871 which was an absolute blast to build. Dyno results via Monkeywrench Racing's chassis dyno were 269 ft/lb tq @ 4700rpm and 279.9hp @ 5400rpm on a stock engine . I did the system as a proof of concept to show that a remote turbo system would yield some decent results. This turned out to be FANTASTIC for my FWD car because spool was not crazy in first gear (only about 3-5psi if I remember correctly). This allowed me to hook up properly before boost slammed me back in my seat at the start of 2nd gear. No RMT system will provide the same power output or as fast hitting of a powerband as a traditional system will allow, but drivability was definitely a plus with this setup.

Oiling system and some exhaust piping:

My 20ft of intake pipe, lol:

Dyno Graph (ignore that it says flywheel torque, it has been verified to be wheell torque):

The weird falloff at the end of the graph is because Matt at @MWR cut off a little early due to the fact that the engine was making some funky noises. I came to find out later was because oil was getting sucked into the intake thanks to a crappy Shurflo pump I picked out for the oil return system. After that, I did a little research and found the supplier of brass gear pumps for the systems that STS makes. Installing this made a huge world of difference when it came to top end power since oil wasn't throwing off the a/f mixture anymore. However, I sold the system before I could get back to the dyno to see the true numbers the car was making.

After getting the car in good mechanical shape, I've promised myself that I won't do anything crazy to it until I buy a house which should be sometime around April of this upcoming year. After that, all bets are off .

Chances are, I will not be doing a small block swap. Instead, I'd like to push the L36 (or an L32 block) to a decent limit by means of boost. As the above shows, I'm definitely not a stranger to forced induction. The numbers I'm seeing people push with this tiny little V6 are uber exciting to me and I'm definitely looking forward to diving into this long-term project.

So that's my introduction! I'm glad to see there's a huge website devoted to our state and I will definitely be an active poster on here. I'm glad to be apart of the f-body community as a whole!

Bah! Build it yourself! It's more fun.

I should also mention that the Cavy was damn near parted out completely before the trade. The only significant things left on the car were the 5Zigen wheels and the neon rear brake conversion that's in the pics I've posted.

Edit: I just realized you said you were buying a turbo and not a turbo "kit" like that. The turbo I spec'd out for the build was actually planning in advance. I had every intention of building the engine to be an LD9 monster, but decided against it after I had built the turbo system. The turbo I had would be a decent one for a traditional mount setup on a stock LD9, but you'd definitely get more for your money if you went with a GT series ball bearing turbocharger. If I remember correctly, the GT3071 series lined up really well with the output of the LD9, but I'm entirely sure.

The 2000 model actually made a lot of progress on that problem. My car had a Getrag trans instead of the old Isuzu from previous years. It never made a hiccup with the amount of power I was putting through it.....even with some very abusive no throttle lift shifting.

Ya, trans was the only weak point on the car. I beat the hell out of it and would still have it but the 2.4 5 speed was just too expensive/hard to find. Car handeld great and did great on gas. For has much hate as there is towards the car, I loved mine.

Ohnonono! It's not STS, it's my creation! lol. The only thing I used that's similar to their setup is the oil return pump which isn't even made by them. It's made by RB Racing.

Yep. JVM and I go way back. lol. I actually rebuilt and sold the T3 Super 60 turbo that's currently on his car. Lots of other connections as well. He's a great guy.

                              nice purchase!

I have a 99 just like it, and love the car also. But that being said it is NOTHING like my Z28 and i dont think i would want to start with a V6 for a performance platform.

Im currently trying to sell it cause i need money
