  • 1988 IROC-Z project car

Bought the IROC in '02 just before going back to school. Not the best plan, as once i started i didn't really have time to work on it. Drove it home and yanked the 305 TPI out, to be replaced by a 355 SBC carb motor out of my old '74 Nova. Kevlar clutch went in when that motor was dropped in. That's about as far as i got with it before classes started. Currently, the car is being stored in Sturgis, MI. Me living in Livonia, doesn't make it real convenient to work on. Right now she's up on jack stands b/c i sold the stock 16" wheels & tires. I have a full set of 17"/18" Z06 wheels to replace them, being painted bronze w/ black center caps. Also picked up a full set of C5 brakes and made my own set of adapter brackets. Most of this is sitting in the garage at my house, far far away from the car. I've modified the spindles to accept the bigger better brakes, just need to verify the fitment on the car before having them powdercoated black. Lots of plans, just no way for me to work fluidly on the car. Really need an extra space in the garage.
Looking forward to checking out this site. I have some extra parts laying around, might be a good place to list them up since everyone seems to be fairly local. Keep an eye out for those things being posted and look me up on Cardomain under the same user name...will bring up all my vehicles there.

See how long it's been since i've worked on the car? I already have the subframe connectors installed, welded in. I had actually taken the car to a guy's house in Michigan Center to have a majority of the work done on it. Mainly, the TPI to carb wiring, as i wasn't very electrical savy then. Car was supposed to be driveable from his place when it was done. Months went on w/ him BS'ing me about how much he had worked on it, blah, blah, blah. Finally i called his bluff and showed up at his place w/ truck & trailer. He had moved, and apparently used my car as some sort of "trailer". It was packed to all windows w/ his items. The only thing he had done was weld in the subframe connectors. Wanted $700 for his time. I offered him $100. We exchanged some words, most of which expletives, and i loaded up my car and didn't give him anything. Anyway, i knew the connectors would be a good idea as the motor i had built for my Nova, which is now in the IROC, was estimated around 375hp. A far cry from the stock 195hp of the mighty 305.

I hear these stories more and more. People offer services at a "deal", then screw ya. I started using a line from true romance: "Do I look like a cute little blond with big t*ts and an a** like vanilla ice cream? (wait for answer, just in case...). Then why are you trying to f*** me?" Makes for a break down in the BS department (well, that and turning the eyes to ice). Then again, why? Just be honest and be on your way. Seems it takes a lot longer to make a lie truth, than to just fess up and be done. Karma's a ***** (apologies on the lingo, Meissen).
