Good Afternoon All,
First I found this site by doing the old Google "Fbody Club's in Mich" and what attracted me was that the name didn't say "Club", but Association....might be interesting
I've always been a Poncho lover, my first introduction to Pontiac was because of my father, who has always bought Pontiac, why....because he always thought they were the safest car with an extra crash bar in the doors. His first Pontiac was a used 58 Star Chief and his first new was a 64 4 door Tempest and this is were it leads into my first car.
That's right....the 64 Tempest! The car was sold to my cousin when he went to college and it was handed down to me at 206,000 miles on the old Straight 6. Didn't burn a lick of oil and was solid as a rock. I remember one time I was late getting started to see the drags at Martin and I pushed the engine down the highway at 105 mph all way their and it didn't blow up....LOL!
My next car was my fathers 71 LeMans with a 350, WOW what a difference from the straight 6. I found an old 428 in the bone yard and built up the engine and put a 66 Tri-Power set-up, with machanical linkage ... waxed a lot of Vette's with this, but also scare the Crap Out of Me a Few Times..LOL.
After the LeMans, I purchased a 65 Goat Sport Coup, this Goat Came with a 400, which wasn't the original engine, but that was OK....I was going to dump the 428 in it any ways. Unfortunately I had to sell the 65 when I purchased my 99 HD Wide Glide due to external pressures wouldn't let me build a pole barn for extra room and a 1 stall garage with a car, bike, riding lawn mower and other stuff just wouldn't allow it.
Now to my current Poncho a 1996 Trans Am liciense plate "SMOKNG", White with Red Pin Striping, always wanted to own a TA and the oppertunity arrived 2 years ago. The TA had 97,00 original miles I believe I am the 3rd owner (have to do some checking with records) and the car was loaded. And the cost...$8500, I thought that's a real good deal.
Of course now you just can't leave it stock, so here's what I've done so far:
STS Turbo 5-6 lbs boost (original engine had blow by issues with turbo)
Rebuilt Jasper engine
Pillar Gauges
52mm Throttle Body
Air Foil
42# Fuel Injectors
LT1 Aluminuim Elbow
Synapse Synchronic Blow Off Valve
New Stock Fuel Pump
Holley Fuel Pressure Regulator
Lakewood Traction Bars
Auburn Posi Differential
Welded Frame Connectors
Z06 Replica Wheels with BFG G-Force Super Sport Rubber
Honey Comb Tail Lights
July 3rd 2008 had the car Chasis Dyno'd at Baker Engineering. I was hoping to hit at least 420 hp out of the engine with what I have read with the add on's and with the results of the dyno, I believe I hit my goal per the tech that mentioned there is around a 23% hp loss through the drive train with an automatic. With my readings the tech said I should be able to run 105-110 mph all day at the track. My dyno numbers is as follows:
311 rwhp / 328 ft/lbs
I'm happy with these numbers, considering it's a stock engine with a little larger than stock cam.
Well hows that for an intro?
I'll post some pictures later on today of the 96 TA, 3 grand kids here have kids, will burn out.....LOL
