Hi there! My name is Anthony and I'm from Marquette. Last spring, I picked up a '93 Z28 automatic with 48k miles and did pretty much nothing except drive it until the snow flew. This year, however, with gas prices being the way they are, and the Camaro's previous owner being a bit lax on upkeep, I decided to yank the engine and spend from now until next summer freshening the motor (most of the gaskets are dry-rotted from winter storage) and slowly acquiring some mild bolt-ons to hopefully put horsepower into the high-300s.

Aside from some general knowledge culled from internet searches, I don't know a whole helluva lot about the intricate workings of the fourth-gens. As a kid, my father and I would tinker on older small- and big-blocks (including shoehorning a '78 454 into a '91 S-10 without so much as a single hammer blow to the firewall) , but when it comes to the LT1, I'm a little out of the loop. For example, I've heard enough about the factory Optispark to want to upgrade to a full MSD ignition, but I'm not sure if that's necessary; I want a cam that will see 100% of its time on the street, yet pin me to the seat when I put the hammer down, but I don't know if I'd need a computer re-flash to make that feasible; things like that, you know? And from previous experience owning cars ('95 Thunderbird: tccoa.com, '95 Grand Prix GTP: w-body.com), I know dedicated forums like this are the best place to go for either long-term project planning or "OH CRAP!" moments when something breaks.

So yeah, there you have it. I'll post up some pictures I have of the engine removal thus far (I'm pulling it out the top, despite reading several times that it's supposedly easier to drop it out the bottom) and keep up a project thread so I can ask questions and get some feedback.

A few pictures from last summer...

The window sticker was still in the glovebox:

When I got it, it appeared the engine had never been washed...

Welcome to the site, Anthony! I've always loved the yellow gauge cluster from the 93 Camaro just because it's the only year they put them in there.

I think it was a matter of a bad first impression, as I was convinced for the first week or so that they were simply yellowed with age!
