  • My GTA Project Thread

    Winter '05-'06

Well the GTA went up for the winter, so being a dilligent gearhead, I pulled the motor right away!

After the motor was out I went in and gave summit a bunch of my money. Got a new oil pump, pickup, gasket set, timing chain, ZZ4 Cam, Springs, Intake & Heads are now gasket matched & bowl worked, new SLP siamesed runners, ported plenum, and a Shift Kit to boot.

Doh! Now I have to put it all back together...

Oh yeah the car already has 1 5/8 hedmans with a 3" Hooker cat back. Also cat-delete/smog delete/EEC delete.

Im using the stock L98 heads. They have been worked over. Not a wild port job as to keep the CCs still in the street range. Lots of bowl work though and much cleaning and polishing of the exhaust ports. I also will be redoing the engine compartment this winter, as well as the whole underbelly and suspension.

        So much to do!

Those TT II's look good on just about every car I have ever seen them on.

                    Like this:

I get my heads back tomorrow! Can't wait, plus college is out and high school break is almost here... going to get some serious work done on the bird.

                    Some updates though:

                    Cam is in!

                    Painting the engine bay:

                    Suspension restoration beginning:

                    Shortblock buttoned up:

Updated intake pic (SLP Runners installed & Plenum on:

And here's what she will look like (minus the GTA badge which I wont use)

                    Opinions?

I got my heads back today from my dad's friend (owns a machine shop and builds motors on the side). He machined them for screw in studs and guideplates as well as tested my new springs and valve guide clearance. Then he told me not to worry about paying him & save the money for some roller rockers. Allllright.

So I mocked the unpainted heads on the block and set the intake and header on, check it out:

Also I got the entire front suspension off of the car, sway bar and all. Next Ill drop out the K-member. And yes, I will be re-coating the headers, they started to peel after a year.
