  • loss of power, help

okay the newest problem. the car is running so rough and crappy. major loss of power at speeds greater then 30mph. i had a overheating issue a few weeks ago but thats been fixed. i noticed the radiator fluid in the reserve tank looks really dirty, almost brown. i dont think thats good because i just filled that up with clean coolant. yeah i have a guess could it be the MAF going? because its running just sickly bad. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys!

Dude, you can't seem to catch a break.

Need more info before we can root cause this, but first guess would be blown head gaskets if the fluid has gone bad already.

Loss of power is likely something different unless they are completely toasted.

MAF is a possibility for the power, but has no effect on coolant.

yeah ive decided this is the last time i will fix this car.
i understand the maf doesnt relate to the coolant being dirtied. this problem is brand new like 2 days ago. i was driving normal and fine 50 mph then it stuttered and shook a bit. i just pulled into work and drove it home 7 hours later, with no symptoms it ran fine. the next time i drove it was today, it made it about a mile then there came that stutter, bad idle, power loss. i pulled it into the garage and thats where it sits now.

This might sound really simplistic, but have you checked the fuel filter?

I'm starting to wonder if it isn't something really simple...

if you where over heating before you probably toasted a head gasket, the dirty is probably oil in the coolant. id suggest replacing them, and checking the heads for warping

i wouldnt be to worried about the rad fluid unless you flushed the whole system it will get dirty again just from the build up of the old stuff in the motor... check your oil if its looking a bit milky or has water drops on the dipstick then its serious... but being its 30mph and up i would guess something with the fuel system.. pump, filter, vacume system

very very carefully. if you break the lines trying to unscrew them from the filter you get to make new ones. lol. Its fun. I would use some PB blaster or similar penetrating lube on both the fittings and let them sit. Then attempt to unscrew the lines. If you see the TUBE twisting at all stop cause your just gonna snap them off. but if thats where you end up then you have to replace the lines.

I ain't no mechanic (although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night), but I'm guessing you should change that thing ASAP.

Both fittings have to come off and the clamp nut has to come off.

The filters are like $3 at Autozone. Buy one first before you start pulling things apart 'cause the lines will leak when you disconnect them.

A relatively simple fix and probably something that needs to be done regardless of if this is the real problem.

But it very well could be.
