  • LS1 PCM Questions

Hey everyone, I'm up in the air at the moment as to which direction to head with my TPI setup to handle the boost. I have been looking at a few options:

    -730/749 ECM with Sy/Ty code

    -MegaSquirt II

    -411 LS1 PCM conversion

I know that the SyTy code runs boost well, but my question is for you LS1 PCM tuners - how well can the 411 handle boost? If I go this route I'll have to grab up a vortec distributor as well as the crank reluctor setup from a late model 5.7 vortec truck. I think this would be the way to go though since I could still have a MAF system with newer OBDII code and SEFI.

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

Easiest method is 749 syclone conversion. A bit tougher to work with tunning wise but it does really work in 2bar mode. The only other option is to use a vortec PCM which actually isn;t that tough to pull off.

Have you ever tuned a 411 LS1 PCM with boost? If so how did it go and how were the final results.

I am willing to spend more to get OBDII interfacing. Any way I go Ill be redoing my wiring (granted the 411 would be pretty a pretty intense conversion) but I am up for any options. I would really prefer to have SEFI and electronic trans controls.. but not necessary.

I have tuned a buncho ls1's with boost but i don;t use the fancy oprating systems. There is zero need. All they really seem to do is rework the scantool interface and turn off the MAF codes. The best bang for the buck to get into obd2 is to use a vortec system. You can run a conventional 4x crank wheel and the distributor drops right into the engine with zero trouble. the rest of the wiring could be reused or you could call someone like Howell-efi and get them to build you a custom harenss. Also the vortec pcm offers numerous advatages to the ls1 pcm in terms o fdealing with boost.

Either way if you are looking for something like this drop me a line i could qoute it out if you didnt want to tackle it yourself. As it stands now i have done sevral 730/749 conversions all of which run exceedingly well.

There's a nice thread over on TGO detailing the TPI 411 swap. From what Ive read they use the 411 over the vortec PCM because the vortec PCM apparently has a hardware rev limiter inside it. Is this true in your experience?
