Ok, just a shot in the dark but it wont cost anything to check. Make sure the cam is turning . Pop the oil fill cap and watch the rocker. Make sure it moves durring cranking. It issuspisious that it wouldnt run on a prime but it has spark. Maybe it threw the timing chain. Valves wont open fuel wont go into the cylinders. I dunno...weird...

The coil has its spark. I did test that just as you sugested, Kyle. Did that the same time i checked the timing for the third... Fourth... One of those times. Haven't thouroully checked the compression though. Pain in the ass but it may come down to that. I should try that wd40 trick too....

Joe, that actually occured to me too at one point but if the rotor in the distributor turns with the crank can't i safely assume the cam is turning too? Granted i didn pop the oil fill off and look at the rockers but the rotor turns so....

yah i dont think this guy is going to help me. There is a guy who does know his stuff about these cars but hes always so busy id have to wait months to get him to look at her however... Might be my only option now. Seriously, i hate my car life right now.

Its never really safe to assume anything when you are dealing with an unknown, but if the rotor turns then the cam and timing set is probably also ok.

Well, I'll keep it simple. Shop#2 figured it out. The timing was slightly off but the fuel pump was dying. It worked enough to come on but wasn't strong enough to get the car to start. Replaced the pump, adjusted the timing and she fired up. I got to drive her home.

Half way home she started to stumble and lag. Smelled smoke. Pulled over and poped the hood. Plug wires #1, 3, and 5 were laying on the exhaust manifold. #1 and 3 were on fire. Right next to the fuel lines... Got my extinguisher in time to put it out. Towed her home.

So, If I didn't have the extinguisher, Rabbit would be gone right now....

As far as I can tell. Need new plug wires and possibly a new O2 sensor (won't know till I get home tonight, was too dark by the time the tow truck got me home). Could have been MUCH MUCH worse.

                        Good news and bad news...

Good news: It looks like I'm in OK shape. I have new plug wires and a new O2 sensor. Those will go in over the week end to fix the fire problem and I'm back to running again
Bad News: It looks like when the shop put the new fuel pump in, the compression fittings I have to connect the fuel lines together (trap door method *boo* *hiss*) are failing after being removed and put back together a few times, and I have a very small leak from the feed (pressure) line. I pondered this for a while with my wife. I have three options... in order of cost
                        1. I could cut the ferels off the fuel line, buy a new compression fitting assembly w/ new ferels, put it all together and roll the dice that the leak doesn't come back...
                        2. Buy a new in tank assembly with the new lines, drop the exhaust, drop the axel, drop the tank, and replace it all the way it should have been done in the first place and still have a hole in the car for no reason...
                        3. Change out the fuel lines from the tank all the way to the engine bay for a lot of -AN braided hoses and fittings....

I don't want to worry about a fuel leak ANYWHERE in the car after dealing with a fire in the engine bay the other night so trying to make a compression fitting work again is not an option I'm going with.
While dropping everything and doing it the right way isn't hard, it's very time consuming and after all is said and done, if the fuel pump goes out in the future, I'm stuck having to do all that again and I am OK with having an access door in the car as long as I can make use of it (even though most purists will flame me for it).

While option 3 maybe the most expensive and probably overkill for a stock car, it's probably the easiest to implement, I'll never have to worry about the lines again, and if I ever have to get back into the fuel pump in the future it'll be super easy. My wife didn't like the cost but it is what it is. So I'm placing an order with JEGs for a lot of braided hose and fittings tonight. Chances are this is my christmas present this year. Oh well. The car has to run.

So after pricing all the parts I need to do braided lines, JEGS is going to be way too expensive. I can get everything for significantly less than what JEGS wanted if I piece it out threw a few differant sellers on Ebay.

It's not really (around $250) but Christmas is coming and this is a bit more than I expected to spent this time of year. I'm not a rich man unfortuntally.
