  • 5.3L LSx Motor or Old 350.

    K. So i am finally getting funds together and am finally going to do my engine swap on my 86' Camaro. I originally (and still do) wanted to do a 5.3l lsx swap but i'm wondering on my current income if that's just an unrealistic fantasy. If ill just be nickle and dimed to death or if i should just go the classic 350 route and just have a fun car to screw around with on a daily basis.

I'm not entirely sure what absolutely basic things i would need for the LSx swap for a running vehicle that i could just continue to mess with over time but i could use that kind of info. I'm also not apposed to the old 350 swap cause its been done a million times before and i could just throw it into my camaro. I have a bit of money saved up and i'm ok with spending money where its needed i just don't know what to do now.

I would be willing to be you will deff be nickel and dimed to death, I know I was on my swap, seems like everyone who does any swap always does.

As cool and convenient as LS power is, old school is nice some times. Less to go wrong, no wiring, been done a billion times. Pick someone elses 350 build you like and replicate it.

Or if you need a bit more, could you do a 383 on the cheap?

Maybe do some LS power down the road? Turbo 6.0?

Do a 5.3 when you can afford it. You could even carb it if you want to avoid the wiring. Although the wiring isn't as bad as you think. There was literally 5 wires I needed to splice into on my swap to get it running.

LSX swaps have been done a million times too in these cars. It's very common now, don't let that hold you back.

With todays info at your finger tips of the good old internet, Id research it but I love the idea of the 5.3 swap. With proper research you can make a list and figure from there

Dave - sounds like me, you and Chris need to get together for a beer or 2 and discuss your project.

Its still up in the air a little but i would prefer a manual. I might have one in another camaro but we arnt sure if its a v8 or v6 car originally so i need to check tomorrow.

If you have a v8 t5 and want to use it - stick with the old school SBC.
