  • Need help with replacing headlight in third gen

Hey all of you third gen guys who know the easiest way to replace the headlight in a firebird could you give me some instructions. I just took off the fancy black thing around it, then tried taking off the retainer ring thing got the 2 screws on top off, but i'm having one hell of a time getting the bottom two off. I tried messing with the headlight align shit to try to get it to tilt up but i still couldn't get the screw driver in there flush to get the coroded screws out.

Well you can try bending the metal bracket and pop the bulb out, or your gonna have to try and get those screws out. The bracket is pretty cheap so it bends easily.

I have done this like 20 or so times so I am getting a bit more efficient at it.
      Unplug the headlight.
Unscrew the headlight alignment screws completely.
Now the only thing holding it in is a tention spring, either in the lower left side or lower right depending on which side of the car the light is on.

Just tilt the light , (Not the hole bezel assembly) completely to the side the spring is on (it should move easy now) and it should come right off.

Putting it in is pretty simple too, just hook up the spring first, then connect the alignment screws.

Once the light is out, the two bottom bolts should be pretty easy to reach.
No bending of anything is required.
There are plenty of other ways get to those bottom bolts, but I have found this the fastest and easiest way to do it.
Let me know how that works for you..

Ooops.. Missed that your alignment screws are rusted pretty good.
How are the headlight retainer screws?
The last one I did had everything rusted up pretty good.
That is where the Vise Grips come in handy.
It was a slow process, but took the alignment screws out using the Vise Grips instead. One small turn, unlock, one small turn, unlock.. Once it is loose enough, regular pliars and a small flat head screw driver did the rest.

I just pulled another one last night..
          Rusted POS assembly.
The old vice grips saved the day again..
They really needed to put allen heads on those alignment bolts.
