  • 1987 GTA intermittent no start issue

Working on a 1987 GTA with the 5.7 350 in it. Been having an issue with it not starting at random times. You can go out in the garage and it will not start, 30 minutes to an hour later it will start right up and start up the rest of the day for ya. Couple days later, take it to the store or something and it won't start when you get out of the store. Gotta wait awhile, an hour or so and it will start again.

Any ideas? Cold start injector? EGR? Fuel pump? Kind of a weird one

VATS? I hate vats and this sounds like it could be a intermittent problem with VATS, if the 87 GTA's had them (that I dont know).

I would rule out fuel pump, maybe fuel pump relay going bad and only working when it wants to tho.

When this car won't start have you checked for spark or voltage pulse to the injectors? Might just be a fuel pump relay.

that's the problem, whenever we check the car out for the guy, it starts, lol. Just happens on him so far. Trying to get some ideas of things to look for when it does

finally got it to act up for us, fuel pressure is low when it doesn't want to start. looks like fuel pump.

Access panel the best way to get at them on the 3rd gens, just like 4th gens?

It's either that, or drop the tank and rear axle

do access panel! have you tried fuel filter first? seems like that would be a problem all the time, not just once in a while. but a fuel filter is cheap and easy.
