Anyone know how to take out a windshield

    I just had my new windshield put in my car today. besides the hooked/knife cable device shown before, they had a battery sawz-all that had what looked like a spatula attachment on it to get the glass out. It took two guys about an hour to do it. (given they had to be careful and save all my molding because they brought new molding for a T-top car and not my hardtop so they had to reuse mine)

      I've taken a heat gun before and got the glass really toasty.........n used a hood cable or a bicycle brake cable with some gloves and cut it out pretty quick n easily. I had a buddy help me lift the winshield off the car. Kinda sucks if you don't get it to seal just right when it goes back in and you get pissed on at the car wash or in the rain.
      did they have to install a new one, the one on my 85 is brand new the seal is still fresh and all that good stuff i just need both taken out for now then my good one is going in the new car

        Call them. Many do Re-seal jobs if necessary. It may cost you around $80 for the labor...but they will make sure it's sealed properly.

        The last thing you want is water to get behind the windshield and start rotting out the frame, or floorboards. Whatever money you saved, is now lost by having to do rust repairs.

          i work at belle tire in jackson and our glass guy is really good at saving windshields he does them everyday for a company out of eaton rapids and he does mobiles and everything he just doesnt reset them n the winter because the urathane doesnt set in the cold like it needs to so he does them in shop and we have glass guys at every belle tire store in michigan over a 100 and counting


          also we do most new windshields for about 150 and if you need one done i may be able to get you some kind of deal for fbody guys unless your going through your insurance if anyone needs one

            It's easy to do just use wire to get them out. Try taking the bad one out first to see how you do on it. If all goes well tackle the next one. As far as putting them back in go to a auto parts store and get 3m adhesive for it. It's professional grade and it cost 20-30$ a tube. If I remember right you only need one, but don't take my word it's been awhile.

            If you get the adhesive put it in front of a heater for awhile. It's very thick shit. I'm Gunna be doing mine in the next week or so since mine got punched out. If all goes well maybe I'll make a trip down that way and help ya out for the price of beer. Lol

              jeremy, the one in my 85 is brand new it cost me 140 last year to put it in, i got the one out of the 92 almost out, i used a heat gun on low as im in an unheated garage and bike cable and it worked decently. but if you can get me a clue as to what it will cost me for someone to come out and take one out and put it in the other car id appreciate it, im in clinton township so jackson is about 2 and a half hours away, so it would need to be somewhere closer
