I am thinking about upgrading the brakes on our racecar this year. How big can I go still keeping the 16 inch wheels? I am looking for a good track brake package. Hopefully I can get rid of the wicked pull when I change everything out also.

    Any recommendations on brakes?

I'm guessing 11" or 12" rotors? SSBC makes a nice brake setup. Jonny (Superman09) sells XYZ brake systems for Vettes, maybe he can get you a kit for your car.

I do remember the STD Cheater Camaro was rolling around on C5 Brakes...Wonder what kind of cost would be involved?

        C5 brakes require a minimum 17" wheel
        Doing less with more

          LS1 brakes?

I don't know of many full brake upgrades that will let you use anything smaller than a 17" wheel.

That's why I mentioned the brakes Jonny sells...I was looking at their website, potentially for my Cobalt - and they offer packages for use with a 15" rim, and still has a 6-pot caliper...

Ls1 front brakes will clear the stock 16" IROC wheel. I ran that combo for awhile. That will be your best bang for the buck.

I was hearing you need a 17 inch wheel for LS1 brakes. I'm looking for something simple and cheap to get the stopping power up. If we can stay in it the throttle longer we'll have less Miatas and E30s passing us. I don't want to spend a ton either its a Lemons ride. Any linkys to website. We'll be getting the car ready for the race if anyone wants to stop by and play in Lapeer.

Considering base model LS1 4th gens all came with 16" rims I will have to say you heard wrong.

Yeah I was talking about C5 Brakes sorry. I found these adapters online...

Trying to price out the swap out but now I am worrying about boiling the brake fluid or not being able to get brakes in the event something goes wrong. Not sure I want to experiment at 100mph. 4th Gen brakes make more sense, but I'm running out of time to get stuff ordered and here by Sat.

You can do C4 HD brakes too; aka 1LE/J55. 2-piston PBR caliper and a 13" rotor. I have a complete set of J55 front brakes if you're interested, you will need to modify your stock spindle.
