  • Best Shops in Metro Detroit

Hello fellow mifbody users, I am looking for some good engine building shops in metro Detroit. I live in the Bloomfield area and I am looking to get some work done on my 92Z28. I have some extra money so I want to first get the engine rebuilt, while the engine is being rebult I want to add some performance upgrades. (Heads, Cam, Intake, Runners, Headers, Stall, Shift Kit, Etc). Does anyone know some good shops in Southeast Michigan that they would reccomend? Preferably a shop that they have been to or have known about for a while. Thanks in advance.

You looking for a shop to just rebuild the motor, or to pull it and do the whole job?
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Usually places that do good work are not cheap. to R&I and rebuild the motor stock I would expect to spend at least 4 grand.

State motor rebuild they are on Gratiot around 11 mile. We had Brians done there, we took the block and crank in had it bored and new pistons and rings and crank turned and new bearing. He assembled the short block cost $1100. We had another guy mill and do mild porting and replace valve springs and seals on heads. We furnished new springs ect. that was $400.00. We then assembled the engine and installed it. Just to give you some ideas.

Expense is relative I guess. I considered his quote reasonable considering the work required, reputation and compentacy. Best thing to do is call and discuss the scope of work.

It doesnt make much sense to buy a dipping tank and your own machining, balancing, and measuring equipment for one engine build. Thats a great attitude if you have someone elses equipment to borrow.
