And old school and Lt1's sound sooo much better then LSx's. Sorry but its true, almost any shop will tell you that
Yea totally agreed. I do agree that and LS1 would prob be better on gas and everything but a 400 or bored out 400 would still be nice. I would love to build a mean 350,355,383 or 400

When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge you're out of control.

Not sure where your looking, 4 grand will get you and entire longblock and a complete trans and wiring harness. There was a guy selling two truck shortblocks on MM a few weeks ago, one for $600 the other for $400.

He says he will sell the engine and trans for 2K, although the trans won't be useful to you I'm sure he'd part with just the motor for a good price.

here are those shortblocks I mentioned above.

Do they build engines for that cheap or is that just how to build an engine that cheap?

They build em! All's you have to do is put it in, put the carb on it and turn the key.

                  Really??
$889 for the stock Master Rebuild Kit
                  $150 For Refurbing the Heads
$1000 in machinework to get it back to what it needs to be.... (Bore, Hone, Resurface, install cam bearings)
If it can all be done for $1500, please let me know what machine shop you are going to.

Even though the 400s ate cam bearings and had cooling issues... I still think it would be cheaper to go carb'd old school.
I really like the LS engine and its capabilities...but when your on a tight budget...I don't think it can be done. At least not equal to an old school engine. Sure there are deals to be found, as I found my motor for fairly cheap. It's getting it to run correctly with your setup where the chunk of change comes into play.

I was thinking more of a 350 h/c/i and maybe some spray (125 shot) down the road.
I seen Levi's 350 and im pretty interested in that one because I heard alot of people like the 355 and itll be a pretty sweet car with a 355

If i did a 406 swap do you think my 700r4 would be capable of that power or should i swap it to a TH400 or 4l60e? If i did a different trans would i have to change the drive shaft? And how much gas mileage do you think i would get with a 3.42 rear end in the city without raggin on it?

                              A 700R4 will handle a 406 if it's in good shape.
