I'm not sure you would want full on posi... a locking diff like a detroit or eaton locker, or maybe a limited slip diff.. would probably be better..
BTW.. Love the car... only seen a handful of blue Irocs..

Positraction ,twin grip, gov lock, trac-loc and many others are simply the brand names that companies have chosen to describe their limited slip differentials.
a locker is not desirable for a street car due to the noise they make.
the new WAVE TRAc is probably the best ever built but are expensive and not made for many axles.
a spool completely locks the two drive axles together and is only recommended for certain applications

Don't know where you are in Michigan, but give DTS in Warren a call. They did the rear on my car and their prices were better than others I called and the work was second to none. When in doubt, Whip it out !

from what iv learned posi is when both tires spin. also iv heard the stock rear end in these cars are to weak for a full or mini spool and you will break axle shafts. but i could be wrong.Originally posted by Bluedevil19 View PostThanks Guys! I love that blue also for some reason to me blue cars always look really cool. But anyways all posi is really is limited slip?92 Chevy Camaro RS 25th anniversary-dream car-stock-slow-needs work

"Positraction" is just the GM trademark for "limited slip"...and the "spool" will replace the rear end if that's how you wanted to go...and if you go to a spool, guaranteed you'll be replacing axle shafts...personally not what I would recommend unless you're 600+ hp and it's a drag-only car...Originally posted by FER92RS View Postfrom what iv learned posi is when both tires spin. also iv heard the stock rear end in these cars are to weak for a full or mini spool and you will break axle shafts. but i could be wrong.Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! It annoys me more then anything.

Spools are good for straight-line racing. Both wheels turn at the same speed (there's also welding the spider gears, but let's not make this complicated). Posi or limited slip spins both wheels, but allows the outside rear wheel to spin faster when cornering, either with cones or friction discs. When Jeff says "drag only" he means straight-line, no turns. Up until one or both the axles give up, there will be a lot of tire squealing when turning. Honestly though, I'd worry about that almost last. From the sounds of it, you're looking to build the power in the plant at the moment. Switching out the carrier (in which case, you might as well go bigger gearing) is not going to be very cheap.Originally posted by 81DaytonaPaceCar View Post"Positraction" is just the GM trademark for "limited slip"...and the "spool" will replace the rear end if that's how you wanted to go...and if you go to a spool, guaranteed you'll be replacing axle shafts...personally not what I would recommend unless you're 600+ hp and it's a drag-only car...Last edited by steddy; October 22nd, 2010, 01:15 AM.sigpic

cheap way is look on craigslist or call some local junk yards looking for a 93-02 trans am or Z28 year end from a Manual car this way you get the 3.42 LSD can be had for less than 300 most times and you can just toss it in. as far as "welding the spider gears" it only works in a pinch not something that will remain permanent and at that point youve toasted the Diffie. and it will need to be replaced. I have a spool in my 9" carrier it definately isnt Street friendly04 dodge ram HemiGtx 001/433
