  • What would a mint 1983 Z28 be worth?

I am trying to help out a friend of mine in a very difficult time. I have a friend whose dad passed away and left his prized Camaro to him. In the event they have to sell the car, what would something like that go for? Details I received are as follows:

83 vintage camy Z28 that is a stick shift. White with black hood indents, grey factory body kit/skirts. pretty sure its a small block V8 (305?) engine in it; non-4 barrel carb. Only 25,817 original miles and needs just a new a/c in it. Made before center-stop lamps were required. Cloth interior (silver). No rear window wiper.
New components: tires (Goodyear Eagle GTII's with outlines white letters), battery (AC Delco), new power window switches, le-bra (for driving from New York), New black floor mats.
It's had 1300 miles in the last 20 years to get it from NY to Florida. That's it.
No snow, no salt, waxed with a diaper.

Dad really never drove and it was highly prized and extremely well taken care of.

I remember seeing this car around town when I was growing up. It was ALWAYS clean. And as you can see from the pic, still taken good care of. I am hoping my friend is able to keep this, but if financial reasons do not allow, wanting to help them valuate something like this. I checked KBB but they don't go back that far anymore. Thanks in advance everyone.

From your description the minus is lack of driving and maybe starting and running it in last 20 years. Seals could be or probably dried out. Engine may need to be rebuilt and tranny too. A typical well maintained 83 with average mileage would bring 3500 to 4500. This one is obviously in better condition and might get 5000 if the right buyer comes along. I would ebay it that way most buyer would pick it up and trailer or have it shipped to their location. (at their expense). Not long ago a work associate had a 77 vette been store and not driven in 12 years. I offered him 5,000 for same reasons, he did not like offer a year later deceided to get it out drive it around. 1st the break calipers went, then the tranny rear seal then the engine and cooling system started to leak. He got the bug driving it though and had it all done and restored cost him 9,000.
Car had 59,000 miles and spent most of its life in california, they drove it back here when they moved back. Wife drove it 1st winter in 1 snow storm, parked it and it sat until the above events.

I'd say 9-10k. The only real downsides are because it has sat that long it will most likely have dried out clutch packs in the trans and dried seals in the engine. Both requiring a full rebuild to make it drivable. Even as a weekend warrior going to A&W and car shows. The LeBra probably hasn't torn up the front end beyond fixing just yet if it was only put on for a few day trip. I'm sure someone could take it off and the scuffs could be buffed out.

I bet the motor will be fine too. That 4.3 mile car was fine, this one should be too.

5-6K is WAY too low? What were you guys thinking? $10K easy this isnt a car some "kid" will be buying more likely a collector or someone who wants and is looking for a low millage car.
