  • New axels for the Trans am?

I know it's far out there, but I might as well start looking and getting some prices together.

I have a 10 bolt with Richmond 3.73 gears. I want to replace both axles.

I have drum brakes on the rear.

I'm pretty sure (99.9%) that my drivers side axle is bent just a bit. Not sure how it happened but its been that way for a couple years.
I know its not the rim because I had it replaced once, and the new rim was fine. So it has to be the axle correct??
There is a little wobble when I'm going down the road. I can't feel it when I'm in the car...it drives normal to me, but some people behind me pointed it out a couple times.

I'll put it up on the hoist and let it spin to 100% know what it is. I cant think of any other thing it could be if its not the rim.

So whats all involved in swapping axles? Go past all the brake parts that's easy to take apart and put back together.
I know i have to take the cover off the diff.....after that I have never swapped axles before.
Also where is a good place to get axles and what brand should I get? Remember I'm not pushing a lot of power with my little 305

    Thanks!!

Swapping axles is really easy. After you get the brake asy out of the way, Just use a magnet to grab ahold and slide out the C-clips from the diff. once you have the cover off. Depending on what type of diff., ie, posi or open will determine what you have to do to gain access to the c-clips. Once you get the axle out, Then beat out your old studs from the axle flange and press them into your new axles...or buy new studs.

Any of them or CS3, but you will need to know if you have 26 or 28 spline axles

              yeah, that's my luck lol!

$244.95 for a set of Moser axles. Not to bad. Off Summit.
I just need to see what spline, anyway to tell without pulling them out?

edit...I should have a 26 spline. 28 splines didn't start until late 89 and up.
              So I read.

You could always just buy one of each. Then you'd only be half wrong.

                  '87 had the 26 spine.

To doule chack just pull an axel or pull the diff cover and count.

26 spine, unless it's a serious odd ball
